Which is why it was absolutely dumb list management to not go after some proven key defenders after McKay left.

I’m hopeful on Pink, but Biggie isn’t a key defender.

Having an injured Logue and injury prone Corr as our best defenders was complete list mis-management.
Who was available?
I can't remember anyone good looking for a new home.
Maybe Dougal Howard but he's pretty cooked right?

I most certainly do not.

So he's had 3 years. Soon he'll have had 4... how many years did Dec Watson, Josh Williams, Jack mahony, Charlie ham, Jacob Edwards, Flynn perez, kyron Hayden, will walker etc etc get?
Of the list you have mentioned, did any of them dominate games of football.?

Just off the top of my head, I recall Will playing great games against the Pies, * and GC in the last game. And there were probably others, but I can't remember. And he was serviceable in other games.

Frustrating news re Corr injury, given he was reportedly as fit he has been. Well hopefully nothing serious. Positive is, he should be right for round 1.

Going to be a year of exploration in the back 6. Fascinated to see what Adcock and Clarko does with it.

Remember Logan McDonald?
He kicked 40 this year..
He kicked 30 in the H&A season this year. 32 if you add the one final he played. Went at 1.6 goals a game which is okay for a key forward but someone like Larkey averaged 3.1 goals a game. Almost double. In OUR team of all teams. And he went at pick 70 odd. I know he was the focal point but Zurhaar and Stephenson averaged 1.2 goals a game for further comparison.

No doubt we could probably use someone like a Logan McDonald, but for a pick 4 he hasn't exactly set the world on fire as yet for someone who hasn't had the amount of setbacks Will has had. And who's to say he wouldn't have left us for WA by now given how dire our last few years have been?

Point is I'm not ready to write off Will Phil until he gets a decent run at it. I do expect both to become very good players though, but given the circumstances of each player, it's too simplistic to just compare them both on face value.

Flanders has played 10 good games in his career ffs.

Would Pickett have flourished in our shitbox side as opposed to walking into a gun team?
Only due to poor player management.

If we had a player say Phillips or Powell that went on the 2nd half of the season run like Flanders did we’d be saying it’s the 2nd coming of Ben Cousins.

Flanders is and will be a jet.

Pickett may not have flourished, but he’d still be providing us with exciting moments, which have been few and far between over the past 3 years.

Either way, Serong is ultimately the one we missed out on.

Hamling & Howard would be the two obvious ones. Tom Clurey from Port was looking for more opportunities. We also could’ve gone harder at someone like Melican or Darcy Gardiner from Brisbane.

They might have said no or asked for too much money.

I wouldn't be throwing money at mediocre backmen. We'll do okay back there.

You think he has dominated games? I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Why does everyone want to push Sheezel into the midfield? He just won a best and fairest in his first year playing as a half back.

We haven’t had a consistently damaging half back since Jess Sinclair. I’ll be more than happy if Sheez stays back.

Having a damaging half back is one of the key pillars to any successful AFL side.

I agree. HBF is such a pivotal role nowadays. Plus we have a glut of midfielders and mid size forwards.

Everyone had covid, you can't use that.

It's killed tens of millions of people in a few years ffs, rendered many more than that again permanently impaired for life.

He got it bad, then glandular on top.

Because he has looked even more damaging and dominant when he has pushed further up the ground.

The Warlord has a point, the thing is, it affected different people different ways, so you actually can use that. I really don't think people have anything to worry about with Will as I've posted before, he's going fine with everything he's gone through, he's tracking very well, oh, the bit about the "last in the running drill" have some of our supporters been "knocked out", through all the beatings we've taken and have absolute no confidence left whatsoever? Stop worrying, everything's going to be okay.

And we have a lot of half backs.

For what it's worth, I don't think Sheez will be pigeonholed back there. Expect him to be moved around the ground as required.

'A lot of half backs?'

Bergman: Skinny, hasn't yet shown the ability to accumulate, struggles to defend

Goater: Questionable kicking, struggles to stay healthy

Fisher: ****ing tiny, will have to produce a lot of attacking output to mitigate other weaknesses

Hardeman: Brand new pick, unknown quantity

McKercher: Not even confirmed as playing the position, unknown quantity

That's a list with promise, but not one that inspires confidence yet. We have umpteen midfielders and almost as many forwards, yet a lot of you are suggesting we shift him into those positions and trust the above backline personnel to work it out.

In such an important position, he's the only proven performer we have. Maybe the coaches will see it differently in due course but no one on here has any reason to start shuffling him around with the evidence we have at the moment. We do want the ball making it out of defensive 50, don't we
