I don't want to bring the excitement down too much, but it was North against North. I'll believe it when I see it in a H&A context
Yep, definitely going to wait and see how it all stacks up against the pies next week. Last year everyone was getting amongst it after a few intra-clubs and then we got demolished by the dogs in a pre-season hit out

So Goldy jz turner hall bonar Perez plus Howe and McKay goneski
Mckercher goes straight in
Probably George too
Duursma maybe a month
And I would think if hardeman can actually play on a man he will take a spot down back

I think if those 4 can seriously lock down a spot over this year
And then we can see Goad and Junior Dawson in 25
That would get us back to being competitive

It's hard to take anything but positives from an intraclub setup, but just like with the Australia day outing, my biggest takeaway is how lucky we are to be witnessing Sheezel, Wardlaw, and McKercher all coming through at the same time.

They are still only teenagers! I can't state enough how special that trio is. They have the chance to be the face of our club for the next fifteen years. If those three are our reward for these last three awful years, then the early signs are that it was all worth it.

Sellers was the only VFL-listed player to have a number, and also the only player to have a stint in the blue team. You'd think he is close to earning that final list spot if it hasn't already been decided.

Plenty to like from names like Duursma, Dawson, Hardeman, George, and Maley with an eye to the future. It was also hard not to love the efforts from Lazzaro, Xerri, and Goater.
In the Patch presser they said that yesterday was the final day for SSP player lodgements. So I don't think we signed him.

The idea of the ssp is to wait as long a possible incase an injury pops up that needs covering.
This also negates the risk of signing say sellers and him getting injured himself the next day.
Sure. But the risk in delaying is that someone else signs him before we do.

Without doubt the most pleasing part of yesterday was watching our game plan and ball movement. I remember this time last year, watching Ziebell and McDonald stop & prop post turnover, slow stagnant ball movement. Fast forward to yesterday, bold, fast ball movement, run & gun. Sheezel, Goater, Mckercher & Bergman are such a nice mix of precision footskills and speed. It is very aligned to how we played against GC.

Awesome.
for sure. absolutely noticeable the change in game plan. The reality though, is that we're probably just catching up to the rest of the comp with the run and gun movement, but that's because we didn't have the quick players to execute it. Now it seems like we have too many and not enough depth in the 50s!

Has anyone worked out who all the VFL players were that played yesterday? Obviously there was Davis, Sellers, Downie, Lienert and Lowson. De La Rue played and kicked a goal. Who was the blond kid and the kid with the wavy mullet thing going on? They looked pretty handy tbh. There was also another defender who might have been mixed up as Paul Curtis by some watching, not sure who he is.

It was rather frustrating not knowing who those VFL players were. It detracted from the commentary whenever one of them was involved in the play but no name was provided by Ben Waterworth. A few unidentified set shot goals in particular made it almost farcical.

From my viewing of Wednesday's intraclub, all of Lowson, Sellers and Harrop looked worthy of a chance on an AFL List.

Lowson, however will turn 29 this year, so unlikely now to get a spot you would think.

I would prefer if someone was given that final list spot now, rather than wait until the mid-season draft.

What a morale booster that would be for one of those boys, to suddenly be on an AFL List.

serious? why would he get paid much more in a lower league?
Lower league clubs are fronts for money laundering.
Always been like this lol

VFL does have a modest salary cap whereas Maribyrnong Park, Aberfeldie, Greenvale, Deer Park can pay their players as they please.

Then you have regional clubs like Yarrawonga who also pay a premium for ex AFL players to pull on the boots.
The players don’t move regional they train at their local club during the week, take the train or drive up on a Friday and stay at a fully paid for air bnb and then go home after the game. All written into their contracts.

Daniel Howe is a perfect example of this. Knocked back Williamstown because the coin was better up by the river

which entities would be using lower league clubs for money laundering?

Yarrawonga was his junior club. His brother plays there. Dayne Beams has signed. High chance of a flag going back to back. It ain’t all dollars.

Sure. But very minimal risk that another club signs him given he's training with us, doesn't stop them of course, they're far more likely to sign a player that's training with them than one training with another club.

Happens all the time here in SA too.
South played in a prelim a couple of years ago & had members from that team leave to go play in the sticks on much more money.

Lazzarro used the ball well, which has been a knock on him.
Need ro see if he can maintain that when intensity lifts.
Good on him if he can.

Agree.
His body shape has also changed somewhat and is quicker too.
In one passage Phillips was chasing him and couldn’t close any distance between them.
