Curtis is gonna be an awkward match up for teams going forward.
The size compared to LDU is crazy. Hopefully he continues to show the ability to play as a crumbing small forward along with his more than decent aerial game. Awkward almost undersells it, he's our 'nightmare match up' because none of the oppo small defenders will want to be on him and definitely none of the third tall types either.

Be very interesting to see what happens with that as it's a really bad habit of ours. I suspect we might see the odd one or two if a player is under pressure or panics. But will be great to get it out of our game completely.

Nothing drives me more mad than that kick.

To me its lazy and shows no gameplan.

He’ll be bigger than Chappy. He’s about paul chapmans size now
Na, he's still got a way to go, Chappy was a very solid unit.
Paul Chapman Photostream | Geelong football club, Geelong football ...

Hope he has the same impact that Chappy had whenever he played against us.

Having two medium forwards in PC and CZ who are:

-Too nimble for tall defenders
-Too strong for small defenders

Is going to beautiful to watch.

Add Sheezel as another awkward match up and things can only get better.

Here's what I saw when I was down there today - overall a good vibe with everything seemingly being simplified in terms of structures and ball movement for this season. These notes were all taken live as I watched on so they're all immediate, instinctive thoughts and judgements. Have at it you lot:

  • Got there at 9:30 so missed the initial couple of drills
  • LDU and PC doing laps, look like they’re in great nick. Curtis has added some size in the upper body it seems
  • Monkhorst jokingly yelling at umpires doing laps around the boundary, everyone having a laugh. Seems to be a good vibe
  • Wardlaw is definitely not big enough to play a lot this year in my opinion. Compared to someone like Phillips in his first year as an inside mid he’s notably thinner. Probably for the best anyway - we don’t want to be in a position where we have to play our top picks straight away because we don’t have anyone better or more ready. Will definitely play a few games but won't be an every week player just yet
  • Curtis just ran past again. He is looking really really good physically, have to emphasise that
  • 2 on 3 handball drills early. Edwards with a wayward handball that Wardlaw did really well to catch on the run and not miss a beat - great instincts
  • Spicer, Tucker and Howe also doing laps. Tucker is massive
  • Group brings it in and Monky slips over on his arse. Big cheers from the boys
  • Comben just makes things look so smooth and graceful. He’s just popped a snap at goal from near 50 out of the huddle that just look so smooth. Will be huge if he can start the season and stay healthy
  • To the poster who asked about NAB boys, think there is one here. Can’t tell who he is but he’s got long hair and relatively short
  • Bit of a ground ball drill - 2 on 2 competing for a ground ball then having to extract it out downfield to a target
  • Lazz looks good in this one. Getting the ball first more often than not. Jy the standout, chasing hard defensively when he hasn’t got it. What’s new
  • Sheezel is a more ready AFL body than Wardlaw from the eye test
  • Into some no-tackling half field contest work, players constantly rotating between defence and attack. Perez opens up with a strong contested mark. Bonar has gone for a spoil that he definitely should have just marked
  • TT seems to be moving really well given that he’s only just come from/is still on a no contact program
  • Cooper Harvey has burst away from a pack a couple of times here - know it’s non-tackling but the way he moves looks good
  • McKay is halving the contest for everything he can’t mark. Sign this bloke up forever please
  • Logue doing some work one on one with an assistant coach, lot of ground balls. He’s a big unit
  • Another drill, kick and mark, 3 on 2 keep away. Bonar is very vocal defensively here, just as much as Ziebell. Goater’s kicks are so powerful - a great half back prospect long term. As I say that he mildly fluffed a kick and got frustrated with himself - expects a lot
  • After coming to a couple of Noble trainings last preseason, the vibe is much more positive now. Boys are up and about
  • Ratts is only meant to be part-time isn’t he? Been here a lot this preseason - here again today directing traffic
  • Squad split into two groups, each taking a wing for some flank to flank match sim/structure work. Defensive zoning clearly a priority of what we’re working on here. On the side I was on, Lachie Young stood out. His kicking has gotten a lot better and he read the play well
  • CCJ more vocal than I expected. Good to see it. Following up on contests well when he doesn’t mark
  • Bergman ragdolled by Greenwood in a 1 on 1. Know Hugh is a unit Bergman not big enough yet
  • TT in the other group is the ball user off half back. Been training there enough at this point that you’d think it’s where he’ll play this year.
  • Moved into a drill focusing on F50 entries and contests, squad split into two and each taking half the ground. Tough to see much of an approach in the wet where there’s a lot of kicks to contest
  • Sheezel and Arch is a good little one on one battle here. Sheez beat him positioning wise on one occasion, really clever, but missed the snap at goal. A very loud expletive from him afterwards.
  • People have rightly been commenting on Archer’s size and fitness being much better but Sheezel is already a bit bigger I think. Likely gets an early debut
  • Phillips’ second and third efforts in the wet are just excellent. Putting the ball in the right spot on F50 entries, following up with tackles after the spoil etc. he will have a big year
  • Taylor tries to take on Powell and gets wrapped up strongly. Hopefully Clarko gives Powell a better go then Noble did, we all know there’s a player in there
  • CCJ and Hamish Free are matching up a lot. CCJ definitely winning the battle (probably expected after numerous years in the system)
  • Competition for spots will be strong. We’ll have a better seconds side this year. Players like Perez, Arch, Goater, Young, Hall, TT and McDonald (and Ziebell) all competing for the non-KP defensive roles is great
  • Greenwood seems to be moving a lot better than last year, it’s been made evident by numerous people that he played hurt all season
  • End of all simulation drills, into some skill work for a few minutes to close. Players all moved into their positional groups
  • Monkhurst working with all 5 rucks. Ruck contests then mimicking the ball getting cleared, so they’re gunning it away from the contest to the next stoppage. Edwards lagging a bit behind in these, Free good
  • Inside mid group of Simpkin, Phillips, Powell and Laz doing ground ball work in the wet - Ratts absolutely launching the ball at them on the ground and on the bounce from close range. Powell and Simpkin so clean on the pick ups
  • Phillips has a lot of time for kids. Really think he might be the captain after this next one. Got the work ethic, liked among the boys, good speaker etc.
