Because he was one of the last to get his deal renewed on the mega bucks before they changed the rules lol. I don't think he was doing anything noble.
How many that chased the money ended up seeing out their contracts?

I think a fair few did. Fellaini's another that comes to mind, but I think most didn't renew their contracts before the rules changed so when those initial deals ended most left. Hulk for instance was there from 2016-2020. Arnautovic was there for three years, Pelle was there from 2016-20 as well (so clearly this must have been the main era for players going over), I can't think of who else were the big names to go over at the time?

Well that's something at least.

I just think it would've been easy for him to throw in the towel (especially when everyone else left China) and try and move away. He was clearly emotional about leaving the place so I'd say it meant more to him than just money (although as always, I'm sure that didn't hurt).

He earned 175m playing in China. Nuts.

Oscar tried leaving many times

CSL clubs reduced wages on many star players including Oscar.

There were tears because he finally escaped prison. This was no happy story.

Still, good lesson in not signing a contract you don't wish to fulfil.

What happened in China was Xi got bored with football and became obsessed with covid zero. All of a sudden the money wasn't there for huge wage packets to be paid. Clubs kept paying players on big contracts but cut wages back using a variety of excuses. Refused them transfers out as well.

Oscar wasted the best years of his life there. He could have got a similar contract at 30/31 in ME leagues or even as a designated player in the MLS.

A similar thing will happen in Saudi Arabia which is literally the most unsustainable sports league in the world. Has beens earning 500k / week in front of a few thousand fans. Relies exclusively on MBS being happy to throw government revenue away at subsiding it. Things can change in a matter of a few years.

Wasted the best years of his life but earned 175 million or whatever it was. Don't think that's a waste personally.

The ME leagues I think are more sustainable in that the sheer amount of money in the region will keep it that way.

China is actually way more sustainable. They actually have big crowds turn up, TV viewership etc. Yet they can no longer pay out the big wages because the government has pulled support for it.

Oscar is just one of those guys that was really good at football but didnt love the game at all. So just grabbed as much money as he could not caring about winning anything or playing at the top level or anything like that.

Fair enough I guess.

He won 2 premier league titles, a Europa League title and a League Cup.

He did alright before he disappeared to China.

More PL titles than Klopp.

Carrgaher and Neville specialise in reactionary hot takes for every club except their own.

And nothing he said about Marcus Rashford is incorrect.
