Trav Cloke to Carlton..? say it isn't so..

I always think it's sad to see some of us turn on a player at the first hint of something untoward, which is generally a few lines of speculation in the HUN.
Something outside the players control and doubtful if it has anything to do with that players true feelings. Never let us become a club which treats it's former players as some of the Saints have Luke Ball.

We are better than that.

This is why I am always glad I don't hang shit on blokes like Taz and Fraze when they do leave, not of their own choosing always.

Because you never know...one day you might get em back bigger, better and more committed than ever....:D

Welcome back Taz.
Now I can get that old Number 20 back out of th cupboard.

Have no problem with David Cloke doing what he is doing playing hard ball trying to get some bang for buck for his client who happens to be his son. It does suck however from a club prespective.

If Cloke leaves I am certain Tarrant will make a return to the forward line. Or could we see Reid swing back forward? One of these 2 surely will.

It was signed after he won the b+f in 07

Obviously we dont know how accurate that is but if true i think its more than fair offer

Actually he was signed up just hours before he became a 20 year old Copeland Trophy winner, wonder what his contract would have looked like if they held out 1 more day?

Agreed.

I've just read the last few pages of this thread, and

What's wrong with you people? His dad's a goof, we all know that, but Travis Cloke is needed in our team, and will be staying in our team.

I must agree with Pie Eyed. Even the anger towards David is a bit uncalled for I think personally. David is just trying to do what is best by his son, which is to get the best offer, he may be stubborn and he may be attracting more attention then we'd like doing so, and he may not be doing it in the neatest possible manner but overall he is doing his job. Now at the end of the day either Cloke (Travis) wants to stay on or is happy to go. I think (as I said earlier) the fact that he didn't go to the GC nor was he looked at or linked during trade week it's pretty clear he wants to stay and this is just a scare tactic to try and bump up the coin in Collingwood's offer.

Trav hasn't said he is leaving, he hasn't shopped himself around and IMHO performed pretty well in the finals and had a solid overall season in general. He is important to our make up and it's in our best interest to keep him (so long as we don't put ourselves under to much cap pressure)

For all the David Cloke hatred, he could have sent Trav to the Tigers to start with.

If we're all being 100% honest, it would have been a more 'accepted' F/S selection given the Tigers were the true home of D.Cloke.

after spending 17 seasons watching Richo's kicking woes, I dont think the Richmond supporters could stand watching Travis Cloke take over the mantel!!

Yeah, I'm sure picking up the #1 contested mark in the AFL, for absolutely nothing would be heartbreaking. ;)

This. Surely people don't expect Cloke senior not to try and get the best possible deal he can for his client/son? I put player managers right up (down) there with real estate agents and used car sales men but they still have a job to do and if they didn't try and get the most for their clients they'd be doing a real shit job at it. It's a pain in the arse but also a fact of life unfortunately.

BUT.....every player manager does not run to the media at delicate stages of contract negotiations...he has been lying all along...they rejected Collingwood's offer four months ago he says...in the SEN interview he clearly said...Collingwood was to blame for the current situation...Trav would now accept a two year deal...and this is JUST business...well, Damir, if Trav doesn't want to play for the black and white...if Trav doesn't want to play for the current premiership side...if you think you can destroy our side with ridiculous over valued expectations then you can both pss off...

The perils of having a YOUNG TALENTED side is we have to manage player payments over the next few years. Especially, knowing GWS and free agency are around the corner. Yes, Travis would be a loss...but Dawes to CHF and Anthony to FF will work...

For me the Magpies are one club players want to play for...we look after our players...and I suspect the club won't be bent over a barrel by any player.

Travis is a difficult player to value....his 2009 was crap - see emotional trauma excuse...in 2010, he led the competition in marks inside 50 but failed to convert as a forward should...in the finals, he would be ranked between 10 to 22 in our side.

This has Carlscum and pre season draft written all over it.

Maybe Travis will be lured into their leadership group, given he thinks he is worthy of this at Collingwood?
Well it wouldn't be too hard to break into the leadership group at Carlton, after all, their leadership group consists of Chris Judd and......., oh wait, that's it.:p

let's face it, if we lose Trav our premiership window is closed, it really is.
Better work this out damn fast. I'd be pretty sure we have a fair bit of salary cap room with players like Fraser, Medhurst, O'Bree, Lockyer going and a fairly young list already contracted

The club would be aware how important he is. They'll get it done.

If you had the choice between signing Cloke or Pendles, who do you sign? The club obviously believe that if they sign Cloke for more it will cause serious issues in terms of their ability to retain players in the face of GWS.
