It can be extremely frustrating watching Trav flounder at times, but as a 22 year old who has had to endure what he has over the last 12 months, I think he's going ok.
I have thought about his value on the trade table, and what we'd get for him, but I always come to the same conclusion. KEEP HIM. He will come good. When in full flight and full of confidence, he's unstoppable.

GO PIES!

I think we may be in a similar position to where we were with Rocca after 2003.

Anthony really should have been traded after costing us a flag in 03. He still had currency, and we could have picked up something HUGE from him.

We're probably in the same position with Cloke now. Right now, we could get one or two GREAT players from a side who needs a forward.

I mean, I'd love to say "Let's wait for next year", but is it worth the risk? If he has another shocking year, then his stocks will PLUMMET. Then we get NOTHING for him.

He's been on a decline since 07, so most signs point towards another average to bad year next year, at a time when he should be getting better.

It might be time to trade.

Yeah sure, trade him.
Lots of brains behind the decision.
Currently he is still our best key forward?
On song he is one of the best marks in the competition.
What would we get for him ???
Probably some rubbish as no one would give us his real value.

No chance you overestimate his real value?

I think 2 young gun mids or a young gun backman is worth it.

Or a young gun backman and a high pick.

I'd argue that with 50 goals to his name. Jack is our best key forward.

I think you are overestimating his trade value a touch. Getting two great players for Cloke is a bit of a stretch I think. One A-grade type established player (someone like Burgoyne) or a first round draft pick and fringe player would be about what we'd get IMO.

The biggest worry if we trade Cloke is the affect it will have on our forward structure. Anthony and Cloke are really the only two players on our list that have proven they are AFL quality KPF's for us. Rocca will retire, Rusling may never get over his injury issues and Dawes has some serious flaws in his game which may prevent him from ever being an AFL quality forward (his contested marking and speed are serious concerns).

Trading Cloke would leave us incredibly vulnerable in our forward line. Especially considering this years draft doesn't have many good KP forward prospects outside of the high picks. The compromised drafts will be in place for the next 2-3 years making it difficult to get KPF prospects during this period also.

I also think it is a bit of a stretch to assume that he is going to have a terrible year next year rendering his trade value nothing. He has had a decent back half of the year which hopefully he can carry into next year. Even if he has a similar year next year I still think he would be an attractive prospect to a GC team with picks to burn so whos to say we wouldn't get something for him.

I think his potential worth in a trade doesn't add up to the risk of getting rid of him given the balance of our list. I think the reward of keeping him could be enormous. Unless we can replace him with a better KPF (highly unlikely) I wouldn't be in favour of trading him.

DEFINITELY Keep him for season 2010.
Assess his performance for 2010 and depending on Dawes's and our other Key Forwards development, we re-assess the situation.

Just the thing Gold Coast would love. Travis for a top 10 pick in the 2011 draft. Not too many big men going around with his tank and mobility.

If he could kick straight, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. So you never know; he could turn that around as early as this Saturday night.

Well he has had a bit of a down year, but had a bad beginning getting bashed, got his house shot up and risked a life sentence for dropping a plastic bottle out of a car or as was reported "through it at someone or something".

Cloke while not having been accurate in front of goal and a bit down on past years performance is by no means a lost cause.

Disappointing views from some here, but totally expected from others.

Was it last year or the year before his kicking accuracy was way up on this years?? If he can get back to that or even improve on it this whole thread would be redundant. The off season may do him the world of good. I'd also like to see him played more inside 50.

I agree, Last year we were singing his praises as one of the best marks in the competition. Cloke isn't your typical forward. He is a great mark, a great kick when he is looking for a target in the forward line, but if he is having a shot at goal he gets the yips unless he is 40+ metres out. IMO I think the best position for Cloke, to deliver the ball to our forwards and if he slots in for 1 - 2 goals a game so be it.

Travis Cloke is starting to turn into Chris Tarrant, the last couple of years he was at the club, can play a great game further up the ground, but if left in the forward line all day he struggles.

But whos to say he won't come out and improve next year, and put the first portion of 2009 behind him by hopefully starring in the next two finals, and 2010.

I can understand the trade talk, but I think it s a bit premature to be writing this guy off, after the off field nightmare of a year that he has had.

If he's turning into Chris Tarrant then let him play in the back line and chuck Harry O up forward. IIRC it was Harry O's goal in the 2nd quarter that started our comeback against the crows.

2007 I think?
The club had BT working with him and Rocca and their goal/point ratio improved markedly.

A huge pre-season for Trav....He and Medders need a good build up next year.

Absolutely, our forward line needs both fit and firing.

If Trav could get his accuracy back to that level it would be a big win for us.

Touche ... but Geelong fans aren't calling for Ablett and Selwood to be traded;)
Dead right Mondeo, I got the sarcasm in your initial post and I agree with it.
There are some on this forum that would have us get rid of any player that isn't playing exactly the way they think those players should, Dale Thomas as a classic example. Players are contributing in the way they are told to otherwise they would be dropped. Cloke may not be kicking the goals that we would expect him to but he is doing so well around the ground, performing the role that he is given, that he is still too valuable for us to even consider getting rid of him. Oh and your not the only one to call Sidey a dud on this forum either, it's just you're the only one to do so this week.
