Not a great deal of defensive depth at the club…

but not surprised by this delisting as Trey has been on the list 4 years and didn’t really excel in any particular area for mine

Wasn’t a forward, and at best was a competent depth defender

from a potential point of view, young Ryan looked to have already surpassed him in only his first season

In saying that Ruscoe did well to get drafted and last this long as a late pick…

Not convinced he makes it anywhere else but hopefully the kid gets another chance

I think he is a 150 game player. Uses the ball well and for the right defence could be the perfect player. Reliable.

I think West Coast with Hurn leaving would be stupid not to pick him up.

To me he is similar to Markov who should have played more at the Tigers but couldnt break into a very strong defence but we have found value in him.

Wish him all the best

Goodluck ruscoe. Hope he gets picked up as a dfa or ssp
Has value can definitely play at AFL level, good depth for a quality side and be keen to keep him if he wants to stay. We don’t have the draft picks and it doesn’t look like we’ll be bringing in too many players via trade…so perhaps we can afford to keep him on the list.

Otherwise I think he has trade value…maybe a 4th rounder to get him to someone that will give him game time. We are stacked in the small/medium backs category.

Hopefully he gets another go somewhere else. I was expecting he’d either get traded or delisted. Not that I wanted him gone, just not much opportunity for him and all.

As a defender he suffers from being okay at everything but great at nothing.

He's tall, but not big enough to play a tall forward... he's agile enough, but not enough to play on afl small forwards. He's a decent kick, but not enough to play as a rebounding defender.

Ginni's uncle replied to a post on fb about trey's delisting with "He's going to freo."
You'd think he has some idea if Jack talked about trey to his family.

Ginni’s fam loving Facebook announcements lately :D

Agree, but Nathan Murphy is 1cm taller, and Howe 2cm shorter. It can be done if good enough. For a while I thought Murphy wouldn't work out but his bravery has pushed him to a new level over the last 18 months.

I am a touch nervous if Murphy keeps getting concussed that they'll eventually force him to retire. Would be a huge out. Ruscoe as coverage for Murphy in that regard would be good, but as others have pointed out maybe Ryan takes that spot.

Yeah, I hate this call,
I’m a big Ruscoe fan, strong, plays tall and small, very quick and a good user.
I think he’s been quite stiff to be honest, is still really young and you have young blokes in the twos who are clearly not going to make it but Trey is the first to go.
He can play and another club would be stupid not to have a look.

A fair summary… also foot speed doesn’t seem like a strength of his..

Disagree on the kicking, he shanks one every now and again like Maynard, but he kicks tracer bullets and has no problem hitting difficult kicks into the corridor either.

Agree with the rest.

Tallness isn't always about feet and inches. Murphy's commitment to the aerial contest with his reading of the play made him effective as medium playing taller. Not every play can do that.

Ruscoe has not shown that he's a 3rd tall type without great rebound or intercept marking. But he's very solid, no fuss, too good for the VFL, but not good enough to get int o a very strong back-line, competing against Murphy and Howe. I would have liked to keep as depth but there are definitely sides were he would get a game. And more exposure at the top level he may well improve. Some players take longer. Some stagnate at that level.

Dean better prospect for 2nd tall defender (?!?! looks to have the scope but proof in pudding is a way off) , Ryan looks a better interceptor/re-bounder.

But would have though he had Kelly covered be some margin. Kelly's got almost all the tools, at times can look very good just watch the next play, the clanger, dumb decision rate is just constant. Does 1 good thing them immediate 1 bad thing.

I think that's it entirely. solid player, but not quick enough for a flank with what we want, so they tried him as a quasi tall and he's not good enough in the air for that.

I actually think pace has been the issue with Macrae too so far. He played like a flanker in his first year with us, but physically he's more suited to inside mid - so that's what they're trying to turn him into.

Think these guys we drafted around 2020/21, Ruscoe, Poulter, Henry, Macrae, Bianco were all an eye to future replacements for Pendles, Sidey etc.

Our 2021 was so poor, if 2022 was just as bad, Pendles even said on his podcast (I think) he would've probably retired. These guys were the perfect replacements for our next generation. However since Fly came and managed to flip the club upside down + some good pickups Lipinksi, McStay, Mitchell, Hill etc, its left all of these guys getting older but not getting AFL game time. The depth we have at the moment is so strong, and these guys being delisted are unfortunately just a result of how good our transformation has been in the last 2 years. Poulter and Henry played regular AFL footy this year and Ruscoe will next year. It's unfortunate we've had to squeeze these guys out but ultimately we've got the flag so that's all that matters. Hopefully Macrae can manage regular games next year or I feel he may go down the path of these players.

Ruscoe will be a very solid AFL player

Should easily slot into WCE starting 22 imo. They've lost and will continue to lose so much depth in their back line. Would also be happy if Freo could get him for peanuts but might struggle to slot in given we have no shortage of depth in half back. Best of luck to him as he's a Perth boy and by all accounts a very nice bloke.

Good luck to him. Still now sure he's a regular senior player. Hope he gets an opportunity to prove me wrong.
