He played well on Anzac Day then got dropped. I felt for him. I’d like him to stay.
He played a game of two halves on Anzac Day. Played as a tall in Murphy's role in the first half and struggled. Then moved higher played as a flanker in the second half and was very good.

I'm a Ruscoe fan, but he's not quite right in our team. Not quite a tall, not dashing enough for the way we rebound. Not Bruzzy enough for an in-betweener.

I hope he gets a trade to the right team for his sake, as I think he's a long term solid player in a team that isn't as focussed on slingshot footy.

I agree. But currently we are very much lacking in quality playing depth and Ruscoe would have been a far better choice than Ryan for a role in defence. The bottom drawer players are always going to have question marks hanging over them, but Ruscoe at least looks the part on an AFL field, unlike 'don't let me get caught in the headlights, I'll freeze up and hand the ball to the opposition' types like Ryan.

We just dropped Noble and we still have Nick Daicos to comes back.

Agree - our depth is a mile ahead of where it was last season. Guys like Noble, Markov, Ginnivan & Cox being on the fringe of our side is a good sign of our depth.

And beyond them lies next to nothing.
No, it doesn't. Macrae, Johnson, Ruscoe, Kreuger, Harrison, McInnes & Carmichael are all fine depth pieces to have. Which team has a bunch of great players running 24-30 in their depth chart?

Cox, Ginnivan and Markov are not depth. They are in the 23. So if the truths known is Noble.

You're talking lots of guys here who have consistently been overlooked for senior games this year and the most playable of all of them is also finished for the season. Personally I would not want any of them playing in an AFL finals' game.

That is because they are not best 23, and are as such depth! How many players do you think we can field?

Most teams don't want to field any non-23 players at this stage. That is the point
Obviously they don't want to, but a few injuries per game and maybe 3-4 finals are going to take their toll, and some teams will have better depth as back up.

I don't think we're lacking in depth (considering list sizes). Ryan needs to be given opportunities over the next couple of years to find out if he's likely to be good enough. He's got good tools. I'm happy for him rather than Trey to be our depth next year for that type of role, as I think he's got greater potential.

I don't know off the top of my head. I will have to research it. All I know is that if we lose a couple of tall or midfield players, we are in a spot of bother.
I think you are overating other clubs depth TGG. there’s a fine balance to be had, because any decent players stuck in vfl will just leave. Our depth is pretty good tbh.

We also have a few capable of playing multiple roles in the best 23.

For anyone making judgements about ryan, they should reflect on their attitude to murphy in his first few years. "Experts" make judgements on players before they make 20 years of age. They are often wrong but they move on very quickly...

Murphy is a little bit different. He is a taller player, super courageous who the club also considered a first round pick. Ryan may eventually make the grade, but the club did no favours to supporters' likely assessments of him by playing him long before he was ready.
