I have reservations about the Rings of Power, but being a bit of a Tolkein nut I'll be getting Amazon Prime to watch it. It's supposed to cover events in the 2nd age rather than the 3rd age (within which the Lord of the Rings is set), so we should see some of the intriguing storylines from the Silmarillion (& other publications) that provide the back story to the events of the 3rd age. There is great scope for a butchering of the material, but if nothing else the imagery provided so far is pleasing. So I await the series with some trepidation, and will reserve judgement until I've actually watched it.

From my understanding they have no rights to the Silmarillion, what they can and can't do is quite pedantic.

Yeah - I'm not clear on what they have the rights to, but some aspects they can use and others not apparently. They probably can't use the bits that will make a good movie in future I suspect!

The rights to LOTR are split up and all over the place.

From what I've seen of Rings of Power its entirely about butchering Middle Earth. They've decided to fill it with allegory about modern day, things that Tolkien specifically said he wanted to have nothing to do with Middle Earth.

Tolkien was full of shit when he 'specifically' said that though.

And he knew it.
He knows how art works.
