Bob Hawke.

He could drink a beer but!

Nah he was alright, did a lot good like medicare, but his neoliberalism wrecked the country nearly as much as an actual liberal and Howard pounced on it. Howard learned as much from Hawke as he did from his own mob.

saved the franklin makes him alright in my book. bob hawke a neoliberal on par with howard, thats a new one.

i mean you have the government getting more militaristic.. the whole BLM movement in the US, over here pretty much every state is introducing legislation to throw prostestors in jail. beat someone to within an inch of their life and you get a month or two.. drink drive and almost kill someone a slap on the wrist. mildly inconvenience someone by holding a sign... TO THE GALLOWS WITH YOU MY SON!

protest has always been risky, but it feels like we're coming to a bit of a crux with it. how long before a state sanctioned tianenmen square happens in a western nation(probably the US if tramp gets back in)?

we think we're unique and special now but it's kinda just the same old story repeating throughout history. greed, greed, greed forever until there's finally a tipping point and it all collapses because the ones at the bottom are sick of being abused. the stakes are high now because we're making the planet unliveable but it's the same threat really as the nuclear apocalypse scenario of the cold war.

where was i going? to the fridge to have another beer..
But the power imbalance has never been greater than it is today between the ruling authority and the common people.

When the Romans revolted, or whatever, they weren't bringing sharp sticks to a gun fight. They were bring sharp sticks to a sword fight, which is somewhat more equitable.

Lol no

Not on par with Howard.

Howard learned a few tricks from Hawke.

Seem a bloke, like sports, be patriotic, and you can get away with a lot by the common Aussie.

howard never pulled it off though. hawke was a proper ocker type. smashed the yard glass piss drinking record

howard was a little nerd who tried to bowl a cricket ball once and pitched it on his own toes and watched it roll away

The ball had tape on it that got stuck to his hand. His words, not mine.

Hawke still privatised the bank and the airline and done it with 75% approval. He was so popular he got away with taking steps to improve lives for Aboriginal people with no real backlash.

Doctor Feel you must be excited by the new cut of Caligula being released soon. It will be years of content for you to pair with the Hinkley extension.

im a bit annoyed someone else is getting all the credit for caligula when i remember importing the dvd probably close to 20 years ago
when it came to edgy fillums i had ya covered
  • caligula
  • guinea pig box set
  • nekromantik 1 and 2
  • cannibal holocaust
  • cannibal ferox
  • ichi the killer (pretty much anything takashi miike.. visitor q was a classic)
  • irreversible
  • i stand alone
  • human pork chop
  • men behind the sun
  • ilsa she wolf of the ss (box set)
  • showgirls (VIP edition mind you, with the drinking games and shot glasses)

still have them all stashed away in the hope they'll appreciate like the michael jordan basketball cards that never have. except the guinea pig box set, flogged that off on fleabay for $70 when i needed cash lol
think i might have done the same with nekromantik as well.. the first one was so cheesy but the second one made me feel slightly sick..

went to the doctor yesterday and sitting in the waiting room with commercial tv (the chase/chaser thing).. why is it always the same? this is pretty much the equivalent of wheel of fortune family feud. and people watching it like zombies... it just felt so bizarre. is this what people still do these days? there are lots of people watching FTA tv around 3-6pm with game shows and the nightly news?

do i lead an "alternate lifestyle"?

What do you mean mate? I haven't been in any of those fillums!

Because the host might read something that sounds rude if you get lucky.

to be fair that is objectively very, very funny though. like the german (?) tv thing where they have people with funny voices and the host can't stop laughing. i'm not sure that was a bit or not but its very funny.

when i was in my dvd collecting phase it just wasn't available apart from really exorbitant euro prices. there were some good places you could get stuff from the US relatively cheaply, but there was no salo release there. watched it over a download eventually which wasn't the same really.

there used to be a forum called terror-australis (maybe still exists?) about horror movies and basically shit that was cut/censored back in the michael atkinson days.. occasionally people would actually get their shit seized by customs because it was a naughty movie that didn't pass the office of film and literature classification lol

i was always paranoid with ordering something like nekromantik that the customs office would come busting down the front door like i was ordering a kilo of heroin..

Yeah I was actually going to clarify I find that proper funny incase it was mocked. I laugh with that earnestly. It's funnier because he is genuinely trying to keep it together.

Or A Serbian Film. Pfft, amateur.

serbian fillum was a download, but came out well after the dvdee collecting days

that one actually pissed a lot of people of, but i think it was actually pretty funny with how over the top they took it. some other movies felt legitimately grimy/gross but that just felt like a big pisstake leading up to the big reveal thing and the skull****ing and whatnot. pretty funny

A Serbian Film and Martyrs are two things I'll never watch again.

im with you on martrys, that hit pretty hard and i have no desire to watch again.

serbian film was just lets just pile sacred cows on top of each ad infinitum and it got ridiculous which lightened it a bit.

human centipede 2 is really, really out there in terms of being a nasty grub of a fillum. tom six seems to be an utter nutbag. the first one generated all the controversy but the second one was waaaaaaaaaaaay worse but with no commercial appeal.

not the same thing, but irreversible made gaspar noe big, that imo i stand alone was worse. the graphic scenes weren't as bad but the overall tone of it was so much uglier.

Emanuelle & the Last Cannibals

didn't have any of the emmanuelle fillums, erred on the side of graphic violence over sex for the most part.. although i did have in the realm of the senses, catherine breillat's romance and anatomy of hell, and baise moi

edit: oh yeah, forgot about russ meyer's Up...
