Tv editing is so weird and inconsistent.

For my entire childhood australia day was celebrated on whatever monday fell closest to the 26th to guarantee a long weekend. I loved the aussiness of prioritising a long weekend over a specific date. Changing that tradition pissed me off and snuffed out my loyalty to the date.

For as long as I can remember there'd always been a big 'Sky Works' thing in Perth on the Australia Day weekend, but a few years ago a plane crashed into the Swan River in front of the huge crowd and then when they started using drones a whole bunch of them fell into the river. I used to be able to see a lot of it from where I live in West Perth, but the ever growing skyline blocks most of that out now. And I can only put up with Phil Collins's In The Air Tonight so many times (ie never again).
