Cal Twomey elaborated on the demand for Joe on Gettable.

St Kilda offered their future first rounder for a pick to get him, they stopped offering once he was off the board
Sydney were trying to trade up to get him
West Coast had him ranked next after Allan
Fremantle had him ranked after Reid (idk if I believe this one :))
Melbourne had him ranked a couple spots behind Lindsay
Port had Berry, Reid then Whitlock in their draft order (there may have been some players in between)

Definitely had a few players between them but both were first round talents on Port's board. Even Moraes was ranked significantly higher on Port's board than where he was drafted.

5?

What's the lowest number a draftee has landed at Port?
Wanganeen #1?
Was technically an "uncontracted player" that we signed not a draftee.

This would also disqualify Matthew Primus #2, Ian Downsborough #4 and Scott Cummings #6.
Shayne Breuer #3 and Shane Bond #6 were traded in.

From the initial squad then its John Rombotis, drafted number 6 in 1996 draft wearing number 7.

Close but no cigar are Fabian Francis (as a zone selection) and Shaun Burgoyne in 8.

That remained the lowest until Adam Thomson drafted in 2004 wore #6.

We kind of filled up low numbers in 2004 drafts, Ezard in #9, Ryan Willits in #11, Elijah Ware in #14.

Thomson remained the lowest until we drafted in Brent Renouf in the rookie draft in 2014 and gave him #4.

Renouf lasts until we reach the winner, Sam Powell-Pepper #2.

Even before a ball is bounced, my nickname for him is the Clinician.

i hope he is clinical in front of goals from all angles.

Seems to really know his boot, a bit like Akermanis.

If he kicks for goal like Aker we have struck gold.
When I watched the highlights recently I was struck by well he kicked but differently for different moments, if that makes sense. Like he knew the strengths and weaknesses of the different kicks he had and the lengths, etc.

Any comparison with Aker's OCD type of detail to his kicking is fraught with danger but I did it anyway. It's the preseason.

Yes it was something that caught my eye in his highlights. He doesn't kick freaky Rioli/Betts type goals but he just takes the highest percentage kick for goal available in the position he's in. Closest Port Adelaide comparison I can think of is Brian Cunningham who was a surgeon on either foot and just knew which kick to take.
