No, the collapse of the stockmarket is not caused by "hope". It occurs because of the inner contradictions of capitalism, and hangs like a sword of Damocles over the entire world, as we saw a few days ago. The capitalist system can transform stock market investors into ditch diggers at the roll of the dice.

Look at you lapping up the mainstream media. Those darlings love to talk up a daily fall.

Have you got any idea of equity markets returns over the last few years?

One of the failures of capitalism is the very rich tend to get richer from significant market pullbacks

There is less creative destruction than government bailouts and cheap cash to buy more assets (see GFC, Covid)

I fear that prick Sidey would just buy a bigger boat

He can buy Noah's Ark if he wants, but the collapse of the global economy will create a deluge which will defy God's will.
(He won't even be able to save any animals).

WW1 and 2 and the 1929 crash were big tests that capitalism survived (and subsequently thrived)

The will to socialism is not wide nor deep enough in the West

This isn’t to excuse a lack of local action

I would enjoy seeing the fleets of Sorrento and Portsea scuttled

Not to mention big boats get really cheap in times of drawdown.

Only little boats down there. The real carnage would be in the high beta Queensland marinas.

For your comment to actually have any meaningful content, you would have to be able to explain how it was that capitalism survived.

You would also have to explain how now, given the outbreak of war in Europe and the Middle East, it can avoid a Third World War.

Excluding ex-oligarch superyachts, that isn’t quite true. Still a year plus wait list on most new motor yachts across the globe. A few bargains on the secondary market might be had. What are you after?

Nah, not what I'm after. I never expressed any desire to own a yacht.
Look, if you're not happy with the Noah's Ark special at Savers, you can look into buying solar power stocks so that your boat can sail when the clouds part and the sun shines.

Sailing doesn’t need sun dear boy.

We could chat in depth - give you a proper answer

In short, Capitalists, oligarchs, and kleptocrats rule most of the world

Unless it is global nuclear Armageddon, they will still be in charge

If things go down, I shall write to ILTP when he gets shipped off to the front.

Yep, classic. This is the system you defend, where anyone gets "shipped off to the front".

However, happy to go there, because that way it will be possible to convince other conscripts of the necessity to focus on the real enemy: ie, not the conscripts of the opposing army, but the government sending them to die for profit.

Could you at least go with something a bit more tangible than a stock market crash to bring about the end of private ownership and private enterprise. Oh look we've lost all our money and are as poor as **** - let's not try to have a side hussle or any other hussle ... let's ban hustling. that will help us.

Go with climate change induced global food shortage and than brainstorm from there.

On topic. Trumpy is talking about a stock market crash and WW3 if "Kamabla" wins. "Kamabla" exists in the same universe as "covfefe".

I read a few articles on iltps site the other day - very entertaining.

I can't even remember what the best article was supposed to be about, because about 90% of the article was about a different socialist group called ISO - international socialist organisation. It just bitched about them for paragraphs whilst supposedly reporting on some other issue, referring to them to as pseudo socialists for taking the wrong stance - iso are bloody capitalist roader fake socialists.
I skim this thread every now and then. Your post reminded me of the following:

Several posters here have expressed their doubt that Trump is a fascist, or that he represents a genuine threat to US democracy.

A number of popular comedians, such as Jon Stewart, promote the idea that Trump is just a moron, a ridiculous figure who poses no significant threat.

Likewise Walz referred to the Republican fascists - who follow Trump as if he were a cult figure - simply as "weird". When you refer to something as "weird", the connotation is bizarre, strange, but not dangerous.

However, anyone who listens to the content of Musk's recent interview with Trump on X, and thinks about it critically, will start to realise that Democrats and their media supporters are seeking to disarm the voting population about the genuine threat to democracy that Trump represents.

He is a liar

With cognitive decline, and his aggressive traits, he could easily call upon violence if he loses again

If he wins, autocracy is a risk

I think the US holds, albeit hollowed, if he wins

Detest the clown
