I really only watch footy on Friday and Saturday nights. The occassional Sunday arvo match and Anzac day notwithstanding. So I don't think it personally bad. If it gets rid of the 8.30 start on Friday night because they've given Better Homes and Garden the 'don't let the door slam you on your arse when you leave' even better.
I hope it's good news for interstaters. As has been said, people who don't know about footy, or have little interest, are unlikely to buy FoxSports for a year or two, just to see if they do like it. There needs to be FTA exposure in all markets at prime-time. If that's going to occur then cool.

Pity it wasn't Channel 10 & Foxtel or 9. Why Channel 7? Oh, money.....

The Seven Network will broadcast four games of each nine-match round, as well as all finals, which will be shown live across the country.

It is unknown if Seven will choose to on-sell any of its four games to other broadcasters.

Every home-and-away match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports through Foxtel (and Austar where applicable), using both subscription television and IPTV (internet protocol television).

Foxtel will also broadcast all finals excluding the Toyota AFL Grand Final, and will re-establish a dedicated AFL channel.

The part in bold, does that mean its that AFL Live on main event still? So Friday night games still will not be live? (in WA) I know its not much to care about but that would suck if its the case.

I don't think the AFL got the best deal out of this.

Foxtel only has a 35% penetration rate in Australia. The vast majority of Australians still use FTA, yet there's been little improvement on FTA coverage.

The only difference for FTA viewers is that 3 of the 4 FTA games will be live.

The AFL are requiring fans in non-Victorian states to purchase Foxtel to watch the game.

That's fine if you're a massive AFL fan that needs to watch it every week, but an NRL fan is not going to go out of his/her way to buy a Foxtel membership to watch AFL.

So what further exposure is the AFL actually gaining in terms of expansion?

Essentially this deal is making current AFL fans pay more to watch the game they love, while making little inroads on expanding the game to non-AFL fans.

Apart from the dollar figure, I don't see much of a victory for our game here.

You get the Friday Night game an hour earlier on FTA and gain the option of watching it live on STV. How much more could have you realistically expected?

Channel 7 are ****ing shit. They broadcast the game at 8:30pm on Fridays.... after it has finished and include all the break time at 1/4, 1/2 & 3/4 time.

They'll continue this abysmal practice no doubt.

However, all games live on Foxtel. That's a plus.

Currently i wait till midnight to watch Friday night footy. I only dont have to wait to midnight on Saturday if Sydney are playing. I dont get anything on Satruday day.

4 games live is a MASSIVE step up. I dont think you should comment if you dont understand the market up here currently!

At the very least, FNF will be shown live into the non-AFL states on 7mate, which is a massive improvement over the current situation, where it's basically hidden on main event.
