Word is Lions were relieved to be rid of beams last year. Very polite and disappointed publicly but the guy is an out of control gambler who still owes money to some of the rookie players at lions ... he’s had a tough run in other areas of his life etc so fair to cut him some slack but genuinely was relief he was gone from those in the know.

Yer Brisbane basically getting Neale for Beams is a massive win.

UMM no, some smart bettors / punters can make millions from it, find an edge and bang! heard of Zeljko? (doubt it)
Are you f......n joking!! The rare punter that has a reasonable winning ratio gets barred from sites like Bet365. Zeljko works with the Bookmakers and bets something like a million a week - hardly an average punter. You must have been in a coma the term you had Logical Thinking 101. The Mafia and Concentration Camps provided employment as well, but ....

& it was their choice. For every choice you make in life there is a consequence...

Betting on sports isn't evil. Perhaps the advertising is OTT but people losing doesn't mean it should be banned. People lose on the ASX but if you're willing to put the time in you can reap the rewards

I make a pretty steady second income betting on fights, occasional NBA/AFL bet. Usually pay for a holiday each year from it but I research and put the time in to do so. Isn't my fault some idiot bets more than he can afford to lose on the opposing fighter. Just like it isn't a traders fault an idiot sells the bottom for him to scoop up and sell on later for a profit
Equating it with the ASX??? Public investment is required so as to take advantage of mercantile opportunities where private individuals lack the necessary resources. BHP, Commonwealth Bank etc provide a huge benefit to society. Gambling provides no benefit and uses resources that would otherwise be gainfully deployed.

Agree for the most part, but once the equity is raised, the buying and selling of shares on a secondary market hardly impact those companies. In fact, to a large extent in many instances, there is a significant disconnect.

Yes this is what I meant, not raising funds to expand. However, there are many cap raises run just to keep the lights on for business' run so poorly by the executives. That isn't much better than the gambling industry (in those instances). Both praying on the gullible

What extent would be gainfully deployed back into the economy, rather than sitting in a bank account and not adding to taxation and the economy as much as it does by being gambled?

Stan Tsaikos leads all the way winning at Geelong on San Gregorio for Trainer John Tarin. Surely the racing.com headline is a piss-take?

Sorry not the 'average punter' but the point is IT'S POSSIBLE just like any free market, within legal realms which you've decided to mention and concentration camps. So You're basically saying people who can do it should be banned too? Sorry but that's the free market we live in and many people can function accordingly. He works with the Tote bud much more than the bookmakers...he wouldnt last a week with them.

Zeljko does not work with bookies (though he does have an interest in colossus bets). He makes a lot of his money from TAB rebates and jackpot pools.

Anyone who doesn't believe 99% of these betting agencies are scum simply don't realise that these companies don't play fair.

Lose a fortune, they happily accept every single on of your bets without any hard restrictions.

But start to win anywhere close to a "fortune", and they'll put hard restrictions on you.

Deadset F#kn scumdog millionaires.
Same as a casino? you think people can't win? ....hmm why do you think they banned card counting? Point is you can reverse the edge to a degree on some games,
I'm not saying it fair or unfair to the average but 'possible 'is what we should be considering. You think people don't arbitrage with inducements to bet bigger on certain sides to help a bookie make a market? I'm sorry but stuff is possble and if you ban that well.....you may as well go live in North Korea!

Bet365 put me on restriction last week, when i rang and asked why i couldn't place a bet the bloke on phone said its there right to do so under terms and conditions etc.

Same shit as casinos. If you employ actual strategies to win, like card counting, they'll black list you, even though you're doing nothing illegal. It's okay for the odds to be in their favour, but the moment you put them in yours, you're out the door. Absolute scum the lot of them, wouldn't mind seeing all of these organisations burn down.

So basically they're discriminating against people who have a functioning brain.

Disgusting.
