**** gambling. A cancer on society. And **** all the people that think it’s fun.
Couldn’t agree more.
No sympathy for any idiot that gambles like a degenerate.

Bet365 put me on restriction last week, when i rang and asked why i couldn't place a bet the bloke on phone said its there right to do so under terms and conditions etc.
Why wouldn’t you just stop betting if you know they are crooks.

Borrowing as in stealingYep. He was getting to stage of borrowing money from first year players was my understanding ... not a great role model I’d say
Yeah they are prks that's why many successful punters have many people who open accounts for them....i'm not saying it's normal but it happens and has been happening with these entities for years...just like the casinos banning winning punters! Why wouldn’t you just stop betting if you know they are crooks.

Word is Lions were relieved to be rid of beams last year. Very polite and disappointed publicly but the guy is an out of control gambler who still owes money to some of the rookie players at lions ... he’s had a tough run in other areas of his life etc so fair to cut him some slack but genuinely was relief he was gone from those in the know.
Are you f......n joking!! The rare punter that has a reasonable winning ratio gets barred from sites like Bet365. Zeljko works with the Bookmakers and bets something like a million a week - hardly an average punter. You must have been in a coma the term you had Logical Thinking 101. The Mafia and Concentration Camps provided employment as well, but ....
Its VERY hard to just STOP BETTING. Its as addictive as any drug going around.
Plus these guys have so much spare time and (I assume) disposable income to play with the thrill of a big win is too much.

I'm not sure what's with all the cloke and daggers by calling it a "mental health issue".
Just come out and say he has a problem with a gambling addiction. People won't think any less of him, and calling it what it is might actually inspire other people having the same problem to seek help.
Plus the sick feeling that would come with knowing how much you’ve lost. A mate of mine got gambling help about 25 years ago. Not sure if it’s changed, but he told me something interesting. Gambling addicts aren’t playing to win. Winning doesn’t give them satisfaction because they’ve still got money to bet. So they’ve gotta keep going. Satisfaction can only occur when there’s nothing left to gamble with.

This. True. Only way pro gamblers make any cash is to be ahead of the curve and spread their bets across multiple accounts usually in other names. That is how the syndicates work. Many pro punters wluld lose races just as much as any other person. However, where they make their cash is by betting on outcomes that are over their true chance of winning. This is how they make a living. If a pro punter marks a horse at say 4/1 and they can get 7/1 they bet accordingly.I started working in a chartered accounting firm after leaving school back in 1989. Unlike most, I started in tax instead of audit. One tax return I did in my first year was for a professional gambler who punted on racing. The firm had been doing his returns for numerous years. The year I did it his declared income was $120k. His records was just page after page of bets with tab and bookies and results. I can’t imagine that he declared all his income, in a pure cash system, why would you. So unless professional gambling was a front, I expect you can still make money just using bookies, tabs and small bets across multiple online providers.

The AFL wouldn’t allow that
That is a huge reputation risk. Can you imagine the headlines
“Afl helping Beams through his mental issues and will support him through it”
Or
“AFL have a massive gambling issue and it’s destroying players mental health”

Champion footballers of the past used to spend their extra time training more. Dunstall would routinely stay for hours after training. He'd have 20 kicks at goal moving along the 50m line and he wouldnt go home until he got all 20 through the middle.
Crawford would run half marathons for fun. And often run to and from training.
Now its sitting around during the day playing Xbox and going out all night getting wasted. I feel so bad for the princesses.
Because no old school footballers ever drank too much or smoked/bet too much in their time off :|
