Under Age U16s - 2027 AFL Draft General Discussion

I'll think you'll find that in almost all cases, these kids move for reasons unrelated to footy - but footy is the vehicle to get down there. Was certainly the case with Marshall, and I imagine similar for Ellen. As I understand it, he has sustained a season ending injury over summer anyway, so the move can't have been too much based on footy.
Where did you get that impression? Marshall did an interview with the Herald Sun late last year where he made it pretty clear that his reasons for leaving Queensland to board at Melbourne Grammar were footy related:

Marshall felt facing the cream of the crop in Victoria – which traditionally has the most prospects drafted and a host of recruiters watching each game – would help him get drafted.

“I just thought the best chance for me to get hopefully on a list was to be in the Victorian system,” Marshall said.

“Just because, not only a lot more exposure there but also play against best sort of thing.

“It sort of makes you want to push harder in training and stuff to rise to that level. And with the training at Sandringham, a lot of elite players there.”

I'm sure thats what he says publicly. But its not the case and while I don't mind leaking the odd bit of private information from time to time, this isn't one of those times.

Leave the state...leave the Academy. Should be that simple
It's a technicality that exists for boarders. Same thing happens when juniors from the Riverina accept scholarship offers to board at Vic schools. Technically, their physical address remains their parents' address and that's usually where they're originally from. You're going to see the same thing happen when Tasmania enter the league and are given academy access to boarders like Ryley Sanders at Melbourne Grammar, who will play footy for Melbourne Grammar/Sandringham most weeks + will continue to take part in Tassie's academy and the Allies program. Tassie willretain priority access to players like that and the AFL isn't going to change that rule because they'd be taking away high level schooling opportunities for kids and there's a real ethical issue with that.

I'm sure thats what he says publicly. But its not the case and while I don't mind leaking the odd bit of private information from time to time, this isn't one of those times.
Fair enough. I don't really know anything about him so I'll just take your word for it.

I’ll be surprised if Chandler Siegel and Fred Hardman are not in the final squad.

No Tom Tritton?! That kid is a weapon!

Tom will get another chance next year. I believe Chandler didn’t make the final squad, but a couple of injuries today might change that.

Oakleigh too strong for Sandy in today’s practice match. Ran out winners by 18 points in a fast, tough game. Lots to like about both teams, with plenty of talent on show

Summary? Eli did okay?

Summary? Eli did okay?
Oakleigh jumped out to 3 goal lead against the wind and virtually held the same lead for the rest of the game. Team 1 mids dominated again. Tucker, Condello, McCollough and Alexander. Bullock and O’Callaghan dominant forwards. Eli was ok early. Thomas, Grinter, Destefanis and DeValle provided good run all game.
Both teams missing a few, and quite evenly matched. Sandy had good run from defence and punished turnovers. Angus Brown and Archie Bakoulos are both guns

De Valle, where does he play? Wing?

I managed to get down for the second half.
Angus Brown looks impressive.
Harper was hard at it.
Was the Sandy ruck 6.8? I thought Locky had his number today. He looked good around the ground too.
Condello had a few touches and had a few shots at goal.

Had a good look at this game after following Sandy for much of the summer.
Sandy started the game with a number of their key players on the bench to give what appeared to be the bottom end of the list some game time. Oakleigh just to strong early, especially the mids - Tucker, Condello, McCollough who bullied the Sandy mids. After quarter time the game settled with all players becoming accustomed to the speed of the game. Throughout the game Sandy had to work really hard to score but Oakleigh consistently got easy goals. Sandy ball movement looks good but not consistent enough for long enough yet.
Sandy players to follow - Angus Brown, Archie Bakoulas, Banjo Ockleshaw has high upside, Luke Sonogam provided some good run and carry, Brody Joyce strong third quarter aerially.
I am not as close as some others on here to the Oakleigh group and was the first time I have seen them live but the mids are outstanding with their work rate, Condello good speed, Tucker strong at the contest and aerial skills for a mid very good, McCollough wins the ball easily at times although likes to u turn in traffic which he will need to fix.
Bullock and Kravic very good up forward, Bullock's work rate up and down the ground was elite, Grinter as a bottom ager looks a real talent for next year. Alexander and OCallaghan as rucks are very raw and lack craft but will get there with time and patience.
Only down part of the day was the injury to Frankln Murray Wright who was knocked out right on half time and will now miss the championship games in April because of concussion protocols.

Looking foward to see these two play again on April 7th to see if Sandy can turn the tables now they have had a look at Oakleigh.

Good write up. Agree on all points.
Can you let us know who was missing?
For Oakleigh it was Bond, Brown, Hose and Deane-Johns
