Under Age U17s - 2025 AFL Draft General Discussion

He met with North and made his decision public soon after about 2 weeks before Clarko choosing North broke.

I dunno why he'd sit down with North in August if he made his mind up in February.

Performatism maybe?

Purely for the media. Will was locked in from last preseason.
Mhmm. You keep telling yourself that.

There was nothing stopping him from following in Nick Blakey's footsteps when he announced his commitment to Sydney in early May of his draft year. As has been pointed out, it doesn't make sense to meet with North in August if he had already made his mind up.

Who are the top names here?

Apparently Hodges eldest boy has made our level 2 squad, and is the second youngest in the squad, I think he’s 2026 draft.

Any 3rd hand list findings or are Brisbane still notoriously tight with academy updates?

From discussions on the Lions board, these are the boys from our academy to watch for this draft.

Daniel Annabel MID (Vic Point) L3
Oscar Barry KPP (Coorparoo) L2
Jack Slater MID (Sherwood) L2
Raphael Geesu SF (Vic Point) L2
Jack Harrison MID (Sherwood) L2

As noted, Dan Annabel is in our level 3 squad.

I know they’ve had similar discussions and updates on the Gold board.

Jai Murray and Beau Addinsall were named in GC’s level three squad as 16 year olds this year.

Not just Jai Murray (Burleigh) and Beau Addinsall (Burleigh) from the '25 draft class that have made our U18 team for 2023. Zeke Uwland (Burleigh), Max Hudson (Broadbeach) and Ben Leeds (Surfers Paradise) also made the final cut. So we're either really top heavy in the '23 & '24 draft class or we've got some serious talent coming through over the next few years.

My guess is (and this applies to the Lions academy as well, probably more so) that you have genuine top end talent, and then the depth falls away significantly.

But you can’t run the age groups without 40 odd kids being in each age group.

The 2023 AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys will begin with a clash between Victoria Country and Victoria Metro on Saturday, June 10 during the King’s Birthday weekend in Victoria.

The first round of fixtures will be played across four states, before all ten teams converge on the Gold Coast where the final two rounds will be played from July 3 to July 7.

The 2023 AFL National Championships – U18 Girls will again feature six teams. Queensland, South Australia, Victoria Country, Victoria Metro and Western Australia will all field teams, along with the Allies, which will comprise players from New South Wales, ACT, Northern Territory and Tasmania.

It seems Tyzreise Clark (Subiaco) must have another brother coming through (apart from Hurricane Clark) with Tishjahne Clark 192cm named in the Lions 16's squad for 2023. Like Tyzreise and Hurricane originally from Kalgoorlie City FC - so it's fair to assume they are all brothers. Hurricane must be a 2026 prospect.

All unusual names so possibly brothers.

I'm led to believe that Tishjahne was captain of the Subiaco country (Kalgoorlie/Esperance) development squad. I love to see an Indigenous lad, who is not only talented but also tall and has leadership skills. Expect to see him in the WA squad after the conclusion of the 16's/futures championships.

First real look at Jai Murray today in the U18s clash between the Suns and Lions academies and I can see why he's so highly rated. Didn't look out of place at all, if anything he was thriving and hit the scoreboard with three goals.

QLD watchers.

How did Jai Murray and Beau Addinsall go over the weekend for you?

And for NSW watchers, Max King likewise.

My son has played juniors along side Jamie Gilchrist as I've mentioned before in this thread... he's going to be a star!
Another one to watch out for is Jordy Knapp, played with my boy at The Basin last season (before shifting across to North Ringwood for this season), he is ball magnet in the midfield and kick long range goals too... he will be part of the 2026 draft cohort as he's in Under 15s this season.

Only got to one SANFL U16’s game on the weekend but have watched one other and will catch the remainder over the next couple of days aswell as the U18’s.
Port look to have some decent F/S picks on their way

Very rough early copy of WA players to watch
