Fair play that was a clinical shootout from them. Nice for Saka to get a big moment like that after the shootout in the final. On the balance of play Switzerland really deserved to go through.

England were pretty good in the first half. They slowly got worse though and it was surprising after the equaliser Switzerland still had the better chances.

I will say only picking one left back, waiting til the quarter finals for him to finally be fit then putting him on at centre half was something.

England’s draw is so hilariously easy.

Spain’s knockout stage - Georgia, Germany, France

England - Slovakia (ET), Switzerland (ET), Netherlands/Turkey.

Just about getting results. Who cares about how well England have played

Switzerland are a good team. Germany only equalised against them in added time. They made Italy look like duffers. They played well again today and had chances to win the game. They go out of the tournament unbeaten which will be hard to take.

In the end, football is a results game, and somehow, despite everything, England are getting results. It was a better display against Switzerland, though it would have been hard to play any worse than we had up to that point. It took Southgate until the 5th game to finally change the system, which he had to, if we were to stand a chance against a good Swiss side. Nonetheless, it is clear we have a lot of room to improve. Kane looks tired and someone like Watkins deserves a crack at it, but it would take a brave man to hook Kane for the semi-final. Palmer deserves more time on the pitch, and could maybe start ahead of Foden, who also looks tired. Southgate should also be prepared to make subs earlier, and dictate the game, rather than reacting.

Still, of the remaining teams, the only ones that I truly fear are Spain. France have been almost as sterile as England when it comes to clear chances (indeed, they are yet to score from open play, and Mbappe has looked like he is struggling, no doubt thanks to that early nose-break). The Netherlands certainly have talent but they never quite seem to make the most of it (like England). Turkey could be dangerous, they will regarded as plucky underdogs, but that would be to seriously underestimate them (something the Netherlands are in danger of doing as I type).

What England have to do now is take inspiration from winning the shootout, and from a better performance, and build some much-needed, long-overdue momentum. They need to, if we are to stand a chance.

Turks unlucky for mine
Brilliant first half, went to sleep and defended from deep which they are NOT very good at and then missed 3-4 guilt edged chances in the last 10 minutes!!
Arda güler, yıldız , Kadıoğlu and barış Alper are extremely young so there's a good bunch coming through.
The Dutch have also been quite exciting this tournament, gakpo was exceptional.
The poms? Bout as exciting a interest rate rise.

Just watch England make the final, lose and Gareth Southgate receives a knighthood for making two European finals.
Making two finals is pretty impressive.
