I hope they do a fair and honest game for both sides.
CHELSEA Roffey will goal umpire the AFL Grand Final, becoming the first female to officiate the AFL season decider.
Roffey and Luke Walker were chosen as the flag wavers, while the field umpires will be Brett Rosebury, Matt Stevic and Simon Meredith.

Jonathan Creasey, Robert Haala, Mark Foster and Ian Burrows will run the boundary.

Didn't Chelsea make an absolute howler on the weekend?

Two howlers.

Conveniently forgotten so the AFL can continue to push their agenda. Any other umpire would have been sitting on the sidelines.

Thank God the Mc's aren't there, or Nicholls for that matter. All of them are shockers.

AFL is fast becoming a joke and more like theatre than sport. I hope the fans continue to vote with their feet next year.

Were there two howlers? There was the touched ball she called as a certain goal, but what was the other one?

She nailed the ball coming off the knee, didn't she?

She was calling that a goal, and explained that to the field umpire (mind you he and the boundary umps thought the same thing). The video review corrected them all.

You mean the goal off the knee, where she said she thought it was a goal but she wasn't 100 per cent sure and wanted to check? The one where the subsequent video review (which she correctly called for) cleared things up? Oh, right. You don't mean that one.

You must mean the one on the goal line, where she was the only person in the entire stadium with a perfect view of the ball, the goal line and the padding on the goal posts - and called it a point. The one where subsequent aerial footage - which was not shown on TV - has proven that she got it right? Do you mean that one?If you haven't seen the shot, I'm sure the AFL will make it public on the Giesch's video show this week.

Or are you referring to another "howler" that doesn't exist?

No she wasn't, she went to the field umpire sying she was uncertain if it came from above or below the knee although she though it was below.

The touched ball some are claiming was a goal has been shown from the overhead footage to be a correct call. 100% of the ball must be over the goal line before it is a goal, where the ball is touched before it completely crosses the line is irrelevant.

Both decisions were correct

The rule states that the ball must travel completely over the line. There is no video evidence that shows that it did completely cross the line so i think everyone should get off her back, she is there because she is one of the 2 best goal umpires of this year.

Looked over the line to me.

Either way roffey was getting the gf, all along she was getting the gf. Look she's not the worst goal umpire, but to suggest that she is the 1st or 2nd best goalie is an insult to the two that missed out this week and the two that missed out last week because frankly they're all better than her. Regardless of whether the two decisions were wrong or not benefit of the doubt should be given. But every year she seems to bob her head up every now and then with a shocker or a terrible positioning.

We all know the reason she is there and I just hope it doesn't backfire on him.

Well done to the rest that were appointed.

What offended. She made two excellent decisions on the weekend and was given the granny as a result.

Well firstly the score review was not an 'excellent decision'. She thought it was a goal but was unsure, they called for a review and the correct decision was made. That's jut the system working as it should. I haven't seen replays so as I said she should get the benefit of the doubt for the other one.

But it's naive to suggest that she got the grand final based on those 2 decisions. Wojick Appleton and walker all also made good decisions and are better umpires. Yet only one o them is running this weekend

Why would she be ruled out of GF contention after a Friday night prelim in which she didn't make any errors?

lol, ahh the blind.

a) She stated that she thought the knee-kick was a goal. Go back and watch it, and open your ears this time. The video-review saved her. If there was no video review like last season, it would have been a problem. The fact is that she saw wrong.

b) That goal that she called touched was a fair way over the line. Anybody that has any idea about geometry can understand this. Even the commentary team were saying it.

Dead set.
