The issue is not the free kick. The issue is the down field. The rule was officiated incorrectly. If freo were going to do anything this season they should lodge a formal complaint for siren gate 2.0. But as freo are unlucky to make finals they probably wont. But they should, that kind of blatant not knowing the rule from an umpire is shocking and shakes the foundation of the game.

Both of these were awful.
They actually encourage pushing in the back, as there is no downside. You either bring the ball back thus slowing the play if given, or you influence the kick downfield without penalty if not given.

As true as this is it’s impossible to exploit because the umps make it up as they go and you wouldn’t wanna bank on them getting it right

You need context. Watch the game. The umpiring wave was evident as the game and esp the last quarter went on and Freo refused to fold.

Are you suggesting it was one-sided towards us? Because it couldn’t be more opposite.

2 free kicks in front of goal the the first two freo. The holding the ball against Casboult which hadn’t been paid all night and would Never normally be paid In any other game or context. Several holding the ball calls which should have been made in the final quarter to us which weren’t.

Yes the free at the end was dubious and very lucky. But my god we copped the raw end of the stick, as we have all year.

I didn't see any of the game except the last 30 seconds, the dilberate out of bounds and downfield were both there. I don't seec what's crimminal about it.

The fact that Fremantle didn't receive two down the field free kicks in the same circumstances in the last says otherwise.
If Carlton received that free at any other stage and it resulted in a goal, then the reaction would still be the same.

The reality is the umpires have been grossly incompetent this year and need to be held accountable for it.

Cripps missing the ball with his foot while being tackled earlier that have was a bigger howler.

Both of the last two free kicks were there, the second should not have been downfield though

The down field free was there, but they've officiated it wrong.

If the ball lands out of bounds which it did, by the rules of the game it's meant to return to the player who kicked it, from where they kicked it.
If it had've landed in, it's meant to be returned to the closest player, which was Gibbons.

Fremantle were genuinely robbed by umpires not officiating the rules correctly.

Was nothing more that a light brush from bray there until Docherty decided to milk it for everything it’s worth. Watching in slow motion you can see him almost pause for a moment before throwing himself back to make sure the umpire notices it.

Either way the downfield free kick was completely wrong. Either incompetent or plain useless umpires that don’t know the rules strike again.

Like most, just about done with the game this year from the umpiring we’ve had to put up with

The player jumped in the air to smother the ball, it was incidental contact, free kick was a disgrace and then they don’t even know the down the field rules and then they get suck in with the wrong player kicking it.

You should umpire as you clearly don't know the rules

The ball was kicked out of bounds. Therefore the kick has to be taken where it was last in play....on the wing where the infringement took place

You usually know who a certain umpire favours when the match is in the balance! By the way, more mistakes are by players and it's becoming embarrassing as the world watches during covid lockdown.

Getting beaten by interpretation sucks but it happens, those sort of calls are subjective. Getting beaten by a genuine misunderstanding of the rules? Freo supporters have every reason to be miffed.
