So just a simple note here. For my earlier post I searched available records back to 1965.

Relative free kick differential is derived by dividng a team’s average free kicks against by that team’s average free kicks for, in a given season. For Richmond this season that figure is 22.5/15.7 = 1.43. So in 2021 Richmond have had over 14 free kicks paid against them for every 10 they have paid to them. This ratio is worse after 10 matches than any team has ever recorded for a whole season, records I have seen dating back to 1965. So of the last approximately 800 individual teams who have contested an AFL/VFL season, Richmond 2021 currently has THE WORST relative free kick differential.

The worst of 800 teams since 1965
. So that gives us some factual context to fire at people calling Richmond whingers etc.

Let’s see if Champion Data or any football “journalist”(there are in reality none) deign to actually present these type of facts this week, because that makes this Richmond team a massive historical statistical outlier.

Need to make wankley aware of this loves using the word outlier 😁

Yep some good comments - analyse Nicholls calls - if someone is struggling I reckon it is him - send him your three bags full!
should have retired a couple of years ago. must have photos.

sad the same ageing umps like stevic, meredith, roseberry are still the pick of 'em

just watched the 2nd qtr: missed one against Balta, but evened up with one straight back to Daniher. Grimes a couple of frees against (tackilng technique) one down the field that hipwood had already marked. Graham shyte tackling technique mystifying one against Vlas. (but poor tackling tecnique)
Grimes was pretty crap, Pickett ditto, Graham hasn't really been playing that well either.
Robinson tackle on Dusty?

Listen I gotta be honest , I don’t have a big gripe about the frees against , MOST are legit , it’s the ones that we should be awarded that grinds my gears and I’m not talking HTB interpretations , its HIGH or in most recent case absolutely outrageous marking attempts

Except for the Lions game last year, from memory

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

As ive said before, the AFL agenda to get the Lions to win the flag last season was huge - they needed any silver lining they could to the covid year and growing the game in qld was its one hope of that - shame they chocked against the Cats so hard, made it impossible in the prelim

So far this year we've conceded +10 frees against in 6 of 10 games.

In 2019 & 2020 combined we conceded 10+ frees against in 2 of 46 games.

A few ideas that may help
Create an award , bronzed aggots handed out on Brownlow night for consistently the most balls in their decision making
Two, umpires to be publicly fined or suspended like players are for dead set howlers , missing obvious frees like a player being knocked unconscious for several minutes , deliberate etc
Three consider splintering the umpires department from the AFL to ensure complete independence and integrity

I'd like to see No2 come in, No1 would be too derisive, and No3 will never happen and frankly I don't think it is necessary. My view on No2 is not to to be derisive (that word again) but rather to provide balance about judgments made when there are now three of the out there and one on the sideline - if head injuries are so important (and clearly they are) - it is all about the consequences or in-actions as much as actions! All elements need to be explored to protect.

QI
Free against Rioli: Rioli's tackle causes the oppo to drop the ball. Rioli's tackle momentum continues and he's pinged for too long in the tackle.
Missed against: Infront of Bris goals Free against Pickett not paid. Can't really tell from TV

Daniher made no contact with the ball, Cameron did. My understanding of what is a free kick or not. I rewatched the first Qtr. 2 of baker's frees were oppo running into him. Barely high contact. The Third, the caught in the tackle in front of goal. Probably there. Graham gives away frees from sloppy technique. Ralphsmith vs Cameron jumper hold. Harsh but probably there and it's worth playing like that to make them go back and kick for goal. RCD got pinged for a hanging on a fraction too long at a ball up.
HTB and illegal disposal is what the umps don't pay. Broad did it once and we got a goal from it.
My summation, both teams got one goal frees. Our mids tidy up tackle technique stop about half the frees. I love baker in the middle.
Watching replays we had a lot of players down. Graham didn't step up.
The worst of the poor umpiring was daniher knee in vlas head and Balta non free reversed 30 seconds later in a non ruck infringement. What is the rule on running front on into an opponent, if you have the ball. Onus is on the opponent to tackle legally. I'm thinking 2 frees against Baker. I love baker in the middle, if we can tidy up a few things he's ahead of our other players

For vlastuin to be so obviously knocked unconscious with a blow to the head and the umpire to determine it didn’t warrant a free kick is a blight on the game

For the first time I'm hearing the commentators saying something about the frees. And so id Dimma.

Dimma states a fact --> Are the AFL going to fine him?

That says how it is now. I reckon the club is looking at this and saying that we might be 2 more games up if the umpiring was even. It's so ridiculous now that even the good guys have to do something.

Most of Brisbanes free may have been there but it's the inconsistent way the umpires does not reward our frees. Short was hit off the ball after he disposed of the ball. That's a 50m penalty by obstructing the players run and a high intentional hit. Aarts marks the ball and is hit late by porko no eyes on the ball how is that not 50m. Just to name a few Rioli gets driven in the back whilst being tackled, robinson on dusty, picketts tackle on porko I think it was him and it's not throwing the ball but a push in the back. It's selective umpiring decisions, on the reverse brisbane are paid these. I'm not saying we would have won the game but could've been much closer saving our percentage so we would have finished 8th after this round. And now qué the 9thmond jokes
