The thing that really annoys me is the way umpires seem to go out of their way to even up the free kick count whenever there is an obviously outrageously unbalanced situation at half time. It's not just Richmond games either. I'd have more respect for them if they just continued to make the calls based on what they were seeing in the first half. I'm not sure whether the umpires advisers speak to them during the break and point out how one sided their calls have been. If that is the case, why don't they get instant feedback on dubious decisions when they occur. They are miked up after all.

not sure having a pickle in the grand stand shouting at them would be all that helpful. they get feedback during the breaks as i understand it. i criticise as much as anyone but i wouldn't take it on at any level for quids.

Not one of the ones he decided to take on the tackler, but a handball receive from memory. By that time I was starting to look out of one eye only, but it seemed really harsh, on top of everything else. Does anyone remember or am I a blind one eyed old twit shaking his fist at the tele like Basil Faulty....

Just keeps losing whatever integrity it has left......

The umpires are too physically and mentally fatigued at the end of a game to make correct decisions every time.
They should have an extra umpire in rotation to reduce umpires game time.

One thing that really bugs me at the moment and this goes across all games not just ours and that's blocking off the ball in a marking contest, I was always under the impression if you were going for the ball then body strength was ok but if you weren't in the contest then it should be a free.

Has the AFL changed their interpretation on what is considered "in the contest" hence why they allow these shitty blocks now?

The game is completely rooted. The AFL has had to admit error again for a game which was effectively decided by a wrong call ( Dees v Crows).

AFL is bitching about our crowd sizes, the Pies game was well below average too & you only have to listen to the chatter here from us - for the past 2 years - a club once so starved of success, it seems outrageous to think we are not turning up at the peak of our lifetime success. I think the main reason is the overall crap vibe and umpiring of the game in general.

The game is JUST NOT FUN anymore, watching it resembles trying to deal with your local council over trying to get a permit for a reno

They dont even know anymore. Thats the issue. The game is umpired differently in parts of the field now. There is no consistency to it at all.

I would love to see the stats on the breakdown of each type of free kick given in each part of the ground, per team. It would be very telling to how the game is no longer umpired consistently. We effectively have "Forward Free's", "midfielder Free's", "Ruck Frees" & a a few occasionally to the "Backmen"
