I think people seem to be most pissed off that an animal (a critically endangered one at that) had to die because of human stupidity. The zookeepers only did what they could which is just hugely unfortunate. The blame is 100% with the parents.

While I am not excusing the parents, from what I read, there are little to no details as to how the kid got in there.

I'm not ready to place total blame on the parents. I dunno, accidents happen, you can't keep your eye on a kid all the time, and maybe this time it all unfortunately aligned, that the moment they weren't watching the kid got to the gorilla.

Maybe because I've never been to a zoo, but I wouldn't think "kid going into an animal enclosure" would have been a high priority risk before this happened.

Zoos are abhorrent and I would prefer they didn't exist. They'll go the way of the circus hopefully
Whilst you may have that opinion, and of some Zoos I feel the same but to paint them all with the same brush is a pretty ignorant statement. Without Zoos a lot of the endangered animals wouldn't have a chance of avoiding extinction. Whilst there are still some out there that are solely focused on extorting the animals for personal gain there are many that have the best interests of the animal at heart.

Keeping the public separated from the dangerous creatures has always been pretty high priority...

High risk from the parents perspective

Granted, the zoo definitely needs to be looked at as to how this could have happened.

The Korean guy getting mauled by the Lions a couple of days earlier didn't help. That guy deserved it.

There are plenty of scummy zoos out there but I reckon there are more that are genuinely interested in conservation and educating the general public about wildlife and nature.

Plus it's pretty cool that elephants live 5 minutes away from me :)

I nearly went there on a primary school excursion but it was raining thus canceled.

Maybe I'll go to one in Korea. I dunno. Seems like a weird thing to go to with a mate.

For 30+ plus years the enclosure has had the same fencing without incident (that we are aware of) and then "accidents happen"

She can get pissed all she likes but the facts are the kid had already indicated that he wanted to play with the gorilla so she needed to become more vigilant - the reality is that the boy is lucky that the 4m fall didn't kill him.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I think they should bring back human zoos.

Lol jks! Guys, relax I'm not a crazy nut job. I for one think that they shouldn't have human zoos for the reason that it wouldn't generate enough income.

Perth Zoo is rad. Used to love going there as a kid.

I went to Berlin Zoo which is one of if not the oldest zoos in the world and I found parts of it pretty shit. A polar bear shouldn't be kept in a small rocky enclosure with greenery - it's a ****ing polar bear. Give it ice and snow.

Habitat recreation and breeding programs for endangered animals are brilliant.
