Unpopular Port Adelaide opinion you may have

I have two opinions that will most likely be unpopular....

1. Port should change their logo to the PA logo seen on many of he New Era caps. Our logo is terrible, probably the worst in the AFL. You go to games now and anyone under the age of 40 is wearing the New Era PA logo caps because they are stylish, simple and not the typical lame AFL design. Our current logo has a hand holding a lightning bolt......

2. For anyone that watches plenty of American sports they will be aware of the use of "Rally Towels". If you aren't aware, watch any of the MLB world series matches on at the moment (both the Royals and Giants supporters use them). They provide a number of things which add to the atmosphere of games. first, the visual appeal of having 50k-60k supporters waving their towels looks awesome. Second, they could be used as a distraction when opposition players are lining up for goal. Third, they get people out of their seats and cheering. Lastly, the club could make plenty of money out of them. For example, clubs in America will often make towels for specific events, say it's Kane Cornes' 300th Game, they make one specific for that, everyone buys it, club makes money and supporters get a memento of the occasion.

Hopefully a few people agree with me...

Last time I saw the Port river it looked brown! It has been a long time though.I only get to look at the Todd river these days.\
Just google imaged the Port River and it is quite blue.
I wonder where it runs from?Is there a Creek running down from the hills or is it just a tidal inlet?

Its tidal. Dolphin's have been swimming a long way down stream for about 20 years now since they started cleaning it up in the 1980's

I dont mind the crow talk on here. I love to hate them. I like our rivalry cos there is genuine disdain between both side. It is one of the best rivalries in sport. We can hate on other clubs from time to time but none will ever hate us back as much as the crows and i like that.

We rightly copped our fair share of shit and then some during our dark days. It wouldnt be right to not at the very least take some joy in them looking like a shambles at the moment.

I say 'play on' with the crow talk.

For a casual reader like me its a case of 'Oh here we ****ing go again' every single time I see it. I understand the rivalry (and its definitely the strongest in the AFL) but I come here to read stuff about the Pear and find out more information. In saying that, if that's what people want to talk about - then that's what they want to talk about. I think it mainly irks me because every single facebook page or group is like this as well.

In saying that, it isn't any better across the road and their supporters are exactly the same in this regard so it isn't exactly unexpected.

If you go on the train the water actually is teal depending on the light.

Ben Newton is a good footballer than should have had more chances.
(This is now unpopular due to the hate he is getting because he isn't on our list now)

If he had an extra yard or 2 of pace he probably would've played 5-10 games this year.

I'd love to know the discussions people in charge of the brand at Port Adelaide have. After the success of NTUA I don't think there will be any brand changes for a long time. However if I was a dictator I'd get rid of the Magpie moniker in the SANFL, replace the Bib with the PB's and use the PA monogram for both sides.

I love our black double v guernsey but think a royal type blue would look classier than our current teal.

Even silver and white Vs would look great.
If we win a premiership in the teal V I could change my mind.

Must admit, in the right proportions it looks good :)

I'd agree with that, but in time it'll die down and normalise to pre-2007 levels.

Between 119 and the start of the Hinkley era the glee had at our expense - from their supporters, to their card-carrying ambassadors in the media to their club itself - bordered on masturbating to a snuff film, such was their unrelenting attitude towards Port and its supporters during this time.

Now we've struck back somewhat and look to be reclaiming our hegemony, the blowback from our side was always going to be huge.

Yep. There's a bit of payback, then we move on to the more important stuff.

Whenever we're contending for a flag the Crows recede in "importance". No surprise in that at all.

I hate the PA logo on those caps. It looks unbalanced and clumsy

Wash your mouth out with soap man.
Teal is our color.North,Carlton,Dogs ,Lions and Geelong already have blue.We need more teal.

People need to give up the "Cows" and "Fruit Tingle" slurs. Akin to beating someone with a feather.

Agree on Fruit Tingle (which to be honest I never understood anyway...) but "Cows" will never die. I don't think anyone really even views it as a slur, but a combination of the general gormlessness of the humble cow, and the fact that it's also the name of the South Park peewee football team... these things just make it fit, somehow.

Yes. Casual, hire this man at once.

We can't, New Era now own the rights to that logo. That's why you won't be seeing any more of those monogram varsity jackets (unless NE decide to produce them)

Further to my post in another thread, I rate Mason Shaw very, very highly. Mitch Harvey too. They both have serious AFL attributes, will grow into very big boys, they just look like top line footballers. And they have the advantage of a more traditional apprenticeship, growing at their own pace, rather than Butch who went from 0-100 a bit too quickly. I feel that these two can combine to be a forward line better or equal to what we currently have (hence a potentially unpopular opinion). If that is the case, it will certainly help our contender status long term.

The towel in US sports started with Pittsburgh Steelers and their ground announcer Myron Cope in 1975 was asked to come up with something that will more intensely involve the Steelers fans. He introduced the Terrible Towel.
