Chad Cornes and his narcissism is a bad influence on this playing group. Really, should a coach be "broing down" with the players the way this guy does?

'Broing down'. That is simply brilliant and have filed for potential use in future.

I reckon Cornes success at the Giants was that he was their protector and a natural guy to look up to on the field. This perception then flowed in to his off field role which would have assisted in getting buy in from the players a great deal.

Whilst his status and credibility as a talismatic type of leader is not in question, I'm pretty sceptical of whether he makes a good overall manager as a senior coach must be. I reckon he'd be of great value working with guys one on one to build their confidence or as a positional coach, but with the amount of personalities a head coach has to deal with and credibly motivate I dunno... struggle to see him reaching out to the more reserved, anxious or analytical types.

* Whole post is based on perception, never worked with Chad nor heard of any unofficial feedback from someone who has

lol. Chad is such a chad. You can see him doing the suck in and flex.

Currently listed players are only really Hammer, Boak and Gray so it doesn't rustle my jimmies.

Full points for 'broing down' though. Will use that.

I have concerns about Wingards ability to play midfield. A lot of his magic comes from being so slight and nimble in the forward line, but you need a hard edge to be a good midfielder, something I personally don't think i've seen from him.

Toumpas was dropped at every sniff of being below his best. Others got 12-18 games and performed poorly many games. Hope he comes out firing this year and club shows a little more patience

This. He's a confidence player. Confidence players are never going to succeed if you don't back them in to help them build that confidence.

My unpopular opinion: If we're not willing to Toump him for 20+ games next year and accept that we're going to have to take the bad with the good ala 2013-2014 Jasper Pittard, we may as well delist him now. He's never going to make it as a Sam Gray type fringe player who's in and out of the side every couple of weeks depending on form.

Commit to developing him properly or don't bother trying to develop him at all. If we go with the 2016 half measure attitude next year, we're wasting Jimmy's time, and we're wasting the time of whichever of Bonner/Snelling/Palmer/2017 draft pick misses out on 5 or 10 games of AFL experience next year.

When people talk about Wingard playing midfield it's more an outside role than an inside/stoppage role. See the last quarter of the 2014 prelim.

Carn..don't refer to our own as spuds..that's reserved for crers and richmond.
Toumpas is small, slow, soft, has groin issues and I think he demonstrated in the showdown that he can't even dispose of the ball well. Probably cost us the showdown he was that bad.

Yeah nothing I saw from Toumpas suggests he's going to break out. Looked to lack crucial attributes particularly pace and mental quickness.

That's been my issue with Jimmy since coming into the AFL. There's nothing that stands out with his game other than his deficiencies. He made a reasonable fist of a couple of games there in the middle of our season, but it felt as though that were only possible due to the side being comfortably on top. You can find ways to accommodate 'icing' players if what they provide is unique or elite, but not for an offensively focused player who needs the team to dominate just to break even or perform moderately.

I did note he's also improve his work rate and willingness to contribute to the side defensively with some much better tackle numbers in a couple of games, but I reckon he's coming from too far back to succeed.

Hypothetical:

AFL say that we can wear the PB's at home.

Do you pull the trigger? Or hesitate and hold the status quo?
Hold and use once or twice a year. I love our all black back BIB. It's the best jumper in the league and suits all Port supporters. I wish we'd leave it alone and focus on the players doing it justice

once every leap year is enough for me.

I know our history but the guernsey has lost its value due to what the SANFL has become.

I love the PB's and think it's the best guernsey in the land, but I'd struggle to decide to wear it full time because, as much as the traditionalists might disagree, teal has become a fundamental part of our identity and I wouldn't want to lose it. Also the BiB (sans panel) is the other best guernsey in the land.
