I’ve done my ACL before in a similar way, with no contact. It looked terrible at the time. Am still wondering how he was able to red me so perhaps it’s not a rupture.

Arsenal fear Jurrien Timber could be out for months with a serious knee injury sustained in the win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Further tests ongoing.
You'd have to think Tierney's not going anywhere unless it's a ridiculous offer now.

Yeah surely can't now if it's long-term. Although perhaps Tomi will be preferred.

You can still run with an ACL tear if the rest of the knee is stable enough.

I don't think it changes anything. Tierney wasn't even on the bench Saturday. Arteta wants something from that position that Tierney doesn't have unfortunately.

Zinchenko still first choice, Tomi and Kivior backup. KT will go on loan if we can't find a buyer.

I do wonder if the injury before half time was separate to the ACL. Meaning there was something wrong, however deemed okay to continue. And as a consequence/over compensating upon resuming, he then did the ACL.

Either way, it’s gutting for him. PL debut and potentially out for the season, ****ing hell. That’s cruel. Genuinely feel for him. Unbelievably unlucky.

And the repercussions for Arsenal are significant. He was essentially purchased to negate what we saw last season when the likes of Saliba were out, Zinchenko’s recurring injuries, Tomiyasu in and out, White running out of steam etc. To ensure we don’t need to dip into Holding and/or Cedric territory again.

I still think Tierney will go. He’s essentially the 5th choice at LB with how many times the others started ahead of him in pre season. Stylistically he just doesn’t seem to be in Arteta’s plans, and didn’t even make the bench on the weekend.

I wonder if we perhaps look into the loan market before the end of the window given Timber’s injury.

It has to be a loan, if the Raya transfer is anything to go by. Or we sell a player we weren't planning to sell, like a Jorginho for example, to chase a Laporte type.

I’ve wondered as the weeks tick on and clubs (such as West Ham) who are cashed up and not getting incoming business done, if they come in late for someone like ESR for £50m for example. Would think there’s a host of clubs Balogun and Tierney would thrive in, however hasn’t materialised as yet.

The Laporte links I came across this morning. Would be staggered if City do business with Arsenal, we’re essentially direct rivals at the moment. I do feel we’re a bit short at the back now without Timber. That really got me down today.

Happy to admit that Timber was the recruit I was most excited by. Devastated for the young lad.

As is the nature of transfer rumours, every defender available is suddenly linked to us again. If we're looking to recoup some money through sales - Balogun and Tierney for around £70m - plus anything we get for the likes of Holding, Okonkwo etc - then I think a loan move for someone like Castagna from Leicester would be in keeping with our financial objectives. Castagna can return to Leicester if they get promoted back to the PL and we have some cover for the season.

What will Laporte's value be once Timber returns would be my question... ManC losing De Bruyn for half a season has them in a similar situation as us. Might make them more amenable to a deal, if we choose to go this way.

West Ham on the verge of signing Dinos Mavropanos from Stuttgart.

Greek defender also wanted by top Serie A sides but is set to return to the Premier League.

Arsenal will benefit from the deal after inserting sell-on clause in transfer when he left the Gunners last summer.

I'll be interested to see how he goes. Always felt there was a good defender there.

And Runnarson looks to be heading to Cardiff on loan as well.

Do you have a buyback? With Timber out long term surprised Arsenal aren't interested.

Was quite impressed with Mavrapanos in his first few months at the club. Signed in that January window by Mislintat and I recall Wenger wanting to loan him out instead. Such a dysfunctional and fractured time at Arsenal with the dynamic between Wenger, Gazidis, Mislintat and the board etc becoming more and more fractured.

Mavrapanos did well towards the end of that season and thought we’d have a long term centre half on our hands here. Injuries and the continued changes at the club and all of sudden he’s no longer in the picture really. Glad there’s some kind of sell on clause there, I think he’s going to have quite a decent career at PL level if that deal happens.

Also, Raya straight in for a friendly overnight.

Why are we playing a mid week friendly against PL opposition? Seems bizarre to me.

Yes that caught me by surprise. Would be quite uncommon I would’ve thought once the season has started.

Next match is Monday evening UK time away to Palace, so perhaps Arteta was wanting to give some minutes to the squad (ie, Jorginho, ESR, Tierney, Kiwior etc). Was trying to find the line up but there’s very little information available. Saka featured as well.

I’d understand if giving minutes to fringe and back up but is there a need to try Saka etc. I guess we have to trust the process. Maybe they didn’t get as many friendlies as they thought or getting them used to the rigours if mid week football. Who knows.

Yes I feel Saka shouldn’t be anywhere near fixtures like this. The bloke has been non stop for the last few years now. I wish I could see the line up, as I’m guessing with Timber’s injury now, Arteta is trying to experiment with a different trio in that right corridor and get some minutes into them.

Luton doesn't have a game this week, and we're the Monday night fixture. I don't mind it. Three 30min sessions. I'd be surprised if the whole squad didn't get minutes, and I doubt they'd be at each other full pelt. As good as any training session, with three and a bit days to spare.

Nwaneri with a hat trick in the u21s a few days ago. He’s 16 years old. Holy crap.

Zinchenko seems fit so I’d imagine he’s back in the XI tomorrow morning. Gabriel should be included with White back over to RB. For this match it wouldn’t surprise me to see Havertz as a false 9 with both Rice and Partey in midfield.

Partey being turned on the spin and sprinting back on the wing isn’t a sight Im too comfortable with. Going to see it more often however. Palace look good here.
