Diaby....He is like a new signing

Couldn't help but laugh.

I'm finding it hard to be angry at Cesc here. Barca didn't want him. Neither did Arsenal. Chelsea probably offered him the best wages, he can compete for every major trophy and gets to live in London again. Hard to fault him on that.

But it's still despicable seeing him in that shirt. Yuck.

You'd think if he really cared for Arsenal, he'd look past all that.

This is the club that made him and let him leave on the cheap when he wanted to go home without any hard feelings. The move failed, Arsenal don't need him so he chooses to go to one of Arsenal's fiercest rivals.

I want to know who the other clubs were.

He would have gone to another title contender in the epl. I don't see why it matters. You would all still hate him if he went to Liverpool, United or city. It's our fault we didn't get him. He has a life and family to consider so he did what he thought was best.

He probably wanted to come to Arsenal above all others.

But we said no. From there, it's hard to fault him on his choice. I'm guessing he's been offered £140-150k at Chelsea.

The point is valid that if we sign the players we need to fill the deficiencies in our squad, then no one will regret not re-signing Fabregas.

But I'm not holding my breath on signing a quality RB, world class DM and a world class striker.

Until then, I don't understand the logic of stating we 'don't need' a world class midfielder in Cesc Fabregas. To me it's a simple formula - would he improve Arsenal?

Given he's better than basically everyone else at Arsenal barring Ozil as I said a page ago, the answer is a resounding yes.

It's not that simple.

What would improve Arsenal more: a World Class striker or Cesc Fabregas?

Because if we bought Fabregas, there'd be considerably less chance of buying the WC striker than we have now.

It shouldn't have to be Fabregas or world class striker.

And therein highlights a major flaw at Arsenal - the socialist wage structure isn't conducive for a number of world class players within the same squad.

Well, that's how it is at Arsenal.

So answer the question and then you will understand why we passed on Cesc.

Actually no Benno, I posed the very same question that Wenger continually conditions us with to defend his lack of activity in the transfer market. He quite often says that he only seeks "special players".

Players "that will improve us".

Players that are "better than what we currently have". etc and so forth.

Fabregas would just about be the best player at the club, top two at a minimum. So in answer to the equation Wenger asks us to consider, then most certainly yes, he is special, and a resounding yes he would improve us.

But not to be.

As disappointing as it is that he's playing for Chelsea, and yes he is probably better than most of our midfielders, would he provide as much of an improvement as the signing of a world class DM/ST (a RB is given you would hope...) would? This will only prove as a failure if Arsene does not sign other world class players that we actually require. I don't particularly trust him to, but we shall see.

Wonder what wages and contract term he managed to negotiate. Reports suggest it's around £130k for three years.

Can't blame him.

It doesn't matter who the other clubs were as he wanted to live in London with his family. PSG, Monaco, United, City were never options. Rumour has it he was desperate to rejoin Arsenal but when we said no he took the next best offer. Hard to fault him just like its hard to fault Wenger in rejecting him provided we sign world class calibre players in the areas that need addressing.

Big clubs worry about what they're doing and have to do. Small clubs like Spurs worry about what their rivals are doing and never get anywhere.

Big clubs also don't sell their best players to title rivals, ffs Chelsea wouldn't even loan us a dud striker this season because they saw us as a threat. Its about time we started being as ruthless as the rest of the top 4.

Its not about being ruthless, its about making the right decision. Receiving 20m for RvP is much better than allowing to leave on free 12 months later with the same number of trophies in the cabinet.

The key to the whole Fab saga isn't that he was there for the taking, it's that the vision for next season didn't include him. I'm fine with it.

Interestingly, if Vela's team end up negotiating a deal to keep him and buy back our rights, we could make 17mil without selling anyone. That's about the rumoured fee thereabouts for Khedira who could provide us a helluva lot more and with genuine class.

Leaves more money to strengthen elsewhere.

Given Santi rarely plays CAM, it's not so catastrophic if he goes while we miss out on Cesc. But I'm desperate for us to sign someone magnificent. Why can't we just go nuts for once and sign Pogba?
