Is this true or just a guess by you? If it is true thats amazing

Have been trying to get all the exact figures from pieces here and there. Haven't found all of them yet, but more than enough to give a very high confidence that it is correct.

Herald Sun (02/09)
"The Eagles rank 18th and 17th for ground ball gets and loose ball gets respectively"

AFL.com.au (25/07)
"You won't find the Eagles scrapping as much on the deck, given their groundball-get differential of -205 across the season – ranking them 18th"

In the QF against Collingwood, we were +15 for the last quarter alone.
Fox Footy posted during halftime that we were +19 at that point in the Preliminary Final.

Watching the replay atm. Man that first half was something else. Controlled the ball so much that Melbourne couldn't get it off us and when they actually managed to get the ball, they made mistakes that we punished ruthlessly. Completely mind****ed them.

On a side note, it was glorious to the players were instructed to implement the Hawthorn-like knock-ons which mainly brought us positive results. Such 1%'ers really end up making a critical difference by keeping the ball moving to advantage rather than getting wrapped up in a tackle and losing momentum.

Holy shit it was a good win! Love how we brought the contested game because we identified we had to, to match them... so the majority of the rest of the year we didnt bother cos we didnt have to? LoL
**** i hope we can bring it again, was a joy to behold! Love these boys love simmo love you all :blueheart::yellowheart::blueheart::yellowheart::westcoast:

Cant overstate the addition of the much maligned Redden & Jetta combo again this week. Jetta is just so cool when the heat is on. Redden just gets it done and seems to be a leader out there as is always barking instructions and usually one of the first to get stuck into the oppo if they **** up or are trying something on with teammates.

Vardy, Cripps & those 2 are all proving to be very astute pick ups.

Congratulations on an immense performance, and a spectacular win. There were times I was questioning why you got so many jammy bounces and rebounds, then I remembered that the team with momentum generally gets the 'luck' - its the way footy works and why its a great game. At no point did we have that momentum, you absolutely strangled us. Enjoy the week ahead, and I hope to see JJK in particular win the flag he richly deserves :thumbsu:
No two ways about it, Darling's left footer and Hutchings later bounce were pure luck, but as you say, sometimes these things happen when nothing goes right for your team.

We opened the pies up with a kicking gameplan that used the full width of the MCG earlier in the year. If we can do it again, hit targets by foot and have Vardy, Darling, Lycett and JK take contested marks or at worst punch it over the line when we go long to the posts, we will win this game.

As for our one percenters, it's great to see that the guys know when to use it and when not to. I feel like Richmond overdo this, especially Cotchin for example, he always soccers as far as he can, could pick it up more than he does.

Our players seem to understand that sometimes you take possession, sometimes you tap into space.

There were so many good shepherds throughout the game, great to see.

I dunno where to start. Was at the game and the atmosphere was electric. Best supporter base in the business. Watched the first half on replay and my God was a performance.

I woke up with no voice. Old lady in front on me texted her friend (gigantic old person font size) complaining about the "loud F&#(%^ers" around her. I'm doing my part.

:moustache:

Kudos to Simpson and the coaching admins.

This is a well oiled machine where each player knows his role and performs it (Cripps, hutchings etc) and how our captain wasn’t AA is a joke.

Has held together and actually improved as soldiers have gone down and provided a 2015 implosion doesn’t occur, proud whatever the result.

Suspect we will miss Mitchell next year.

Gaff/Lycett, why wouldn’t you want to play with a side that shows this much heart?

Oh and the vfl tipping just topped off the great win
You'd think with their experience they'd know better .
Your blokes had 2 more H&A wins and a tighter defence than Melbourne, plus you were playing at home.
I hope your supporters cleaned up on the odds!

Again, congrats, just one more win :thumbsu:.

This change made after the loss in Round 22 cannot be understated. The end product is we have gone from 18th to 1st for ground ball get differential in the periods before and after that match.

We are getting to the ball first and the opposition can't get it off us.

The midfield evolution this season just blows me away:
  • Yeo wasn't even a midfielder when the season began - now he's high in the running for the Brownlow.
  • Sheed in and out of the team during the season, given a completely inside role after Round 22 - averaging 28 disposals [13 contested] and 5 clearances per game since then. His last two matches have been consecutive career-best figures from him for contested possessions.
  • Hutchings has gone from being a poor man's Priddis into the best midfield tagger in the league.
  • Redden struggled early in the season but finally found his mojo during the first Derby. Has become better and better as the season has progressed. Has stepped up almost flawlessly in Gaff's absence and is now without question of the very best two-way running midfielders going around.
And that is not even mentioning the absences of Shuey for a third of the season; and Naitanui and Gaff for the entirety of the business end as well.

We may have the same players, yet we are now completely unrecognizable to the team that started this season.

Brilliant summary.

Also add Masten to this. Wasn't in many best 22s before the season.

You want luck watch Lecras faintest scrape of his boot goal ..

You want luck watch Lecras faintest scrape of his boot goal ..

Things are going well when you can miss the ball entirely and it hits the back of your trailing leg for goal.

Ball clearly deviated on the replay, correct decision was made.

Commentary had a complete sook over "not enough evidence" for the next five minutes however.
