Because people will go "Oh I remember that" and go see it.

And free advertising because websites go "Oh I remember that" and talk about it.

Nostalgia is a larger motivator than sex when it comes to cashing in on things.

I think the Ghostbusters trailer looks awful (besides Kate McKinnon, who I hope brings her A-game) but then I've never been a fan of Paul Feig either. Of course, what the trailer means for the actual movie is very little. Plenty of awful trailers have been made, especially for mainstream comedies (I remember being actively repulsed by the trailer for 22 Jump Street and that ended up being a surprisingly entertaining sequel).

Don't know if anyone's mentioned this or not, but apparently there is a male-ghostbusters team planned as well.

Hopefully this one bombs so we don't have to see that turkey either.
Channing Tatum's involved with it isn't he?

He's good, but it's just stupid and unnecessary. Everyone's trying to do the Shared Universe thing now. They're talking about a 23 Jump Street/Men In Black crossover ffs.

So if I said I wouldn't watch a remake of First Blood or Die Hard with Whoopi Goldberg as either John McLain or Rambo would I be sexist and racist?

Or simply stating fact that some roles aren't suited to female 'actors'.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was some feminist group that pushed to have all an female cast and then your average movie goer will be called being racist and sexist if you don't like it.

Has there been any good remakes/reboots in years anyway?

I have some hope for Alien: Covenant as Ridley said it will be a hard R rating with scenes more gorey than the original chest bursting scene.

Why are we still talking about the Ghostbusters reboot? This is a thread for trailers, and not for discussion.

Create a bloody Ghostbusters thread a post in there.
Some people felt like white knighting the thread.

Moving on from that, here's a trailer for Finding Dory:

Off the top of my head the following you could argue have been successful (well semi in some cases... well not flops).
Planet of the Apes
Carrie
Fantastic Four
Robin Hood

If you're talking about the 2015 release of Fantastic 4 it's pretty easy to argue against that.........
It flopped in the box office
Got panned by critics
Won worst picture, worst director, and worst remake/prequel/sequel at the Golden Razzies
The sequel got removed from the release schedule

Wow that movie got destroyed. Rotten Tomatoes has is at 9%. I personally don't watch many of those comic movies. I just know it was done previously, advertised heavily and assumed it did well.
