Americans certainly get it. They just gave Trump a massive mandate to cut taxes and slash government spending 👍

They almost definitely don’t get it. Which is sad. A more educated voting population is a good thing, since it forces government to be more accountable to the policy platform. This weird, anti-education push in sections of the population in most western countries is not a good thing. You can be a tradie and be educated on how the tax system works.

In my opinion: slashing taxes and Government spending will almost certainly come at the expense of quality of life for low and middle income earners. Tariffs will do the same.

With the GOP in office the onus will be on them. That's the way things work
I mean re polarisation and general state of politics over there. It is only going to get more corrupt and more distant from the general population and what they want, than it is currently.

Playing semantics here. A top income tax rate of 45% kicking in where it does is a national disgrace on its own, let alone when you add the GST, fuel levy, medicare levy, alcohol levy, emergency services levy, stamp duty, licencing fee's, council rates and a million other stealth taxes. Miles over 60% in aggregate.

If I stop and equate that with time, many private sector workers ARE public servants for 3 out of 5 days of every working week they just don't know it. Its depressing.

Which is really bad news for all but the wealthy.

Sadly, as mentioned numerous times before, people blinded by Trump's lies have voted against their own interests.

Is there anyone who doesn’t like trump willing to admit that maybe he might just surprise you and make a positive impact as the 47th president?
I really hope he does, but how? What could he do from what he has proposed that would be good?

The surprise would be if it only turns out to be a mediocre conservative republican presidency, thats about the best I can see happening.

I hope he surprises most of the world and makes a positive impact.

I imagine most people who are pretty opposed to Trump would be hoping he’s not what they think him to be, at least as a President, if not a human being.

More clowns that don't understand marginal rates. Why is the starting point of this "analysis" always the top MTR? You only pay 45% on every dollar of taxable income over $190,000. Under that (the majority of workers) is lower rates.

The non income taxes you pay are based on your lifestyle choices. GST was introduced in 2000 and has essentially been incorporated into the cost of living since then. Without it, I expect MTRs would be higher.

That's my main concern, there's a huge rift in the population and the level of disdain for the opposition isn't reserved to just the fanatics, partially I blame social media influencer era and echo chambers really hitting overdrive the last 15 years.

Well I heard from trump supporters that said he improved the economy dramatically and helped create lots of new jobs. I’m not sure if those claims are true but if they are I guess that’s okay

You'd have to be pretty sadistic to want it to go badly just to be proven right.

Though I am sure there are stupid partizan people in general hoping for that on either side of the divide. "I may of lost my job and my house, but I was right!"

Accuses someone of playing semantics and then mentions alcohol "levy" lol

Well. basically COVID disrupted everything badly. Dems have created more jobs than GOP did, even pre-covid though. A lot is just vibe and recency bias. Thing is all incumbents in the western world have been losing elections this year, regardless of whether they were left or right, people have seen inflation increase world wide, and they blame whoever is in charge at the time for that.

Exclusive: Personal contact details of Vice President Kamala Harris have been leaked online by a hacker in an extraordinary security breach, just a day after the US election.
Hacker Kiberphant0m posted an extract of phone records belonging to the Democrat, who on Wednesday lost her presidential bid for the White House, on an encrypted messaging application and a private hacker forum – and is now threatening to do the same to Donald Trump.

Sure thing mate! Check back in with me when it happens.

Let me know when the boogeyman clears out of your closet too.
Point 1- coming from one of the loosest factoid conspiracy theorists on this site, i hasten to unload my real thoughts for fear of being unprivileged.
Point 2- I have things in my closet that could buy you out multiple times!
Christian nationalism is the greatest threat to America, just ask Nick Fuentes!

Flat, absolutely flat. Even moreso probably have warranted fear what's coming ahead IF we are to take trump at his words / allusion.

So what happens now?...................

- Ukraine? It's been reported that trump will attempt to broker a deal between russia and Ukraine, that being 'Ok kids let's go home, vlad keep what you've taken but be a good boy and leave it there'. Yay! war is over but phuq you Ukraine, you lost.

Sends a message to vlad that he can, if he wishes continue annexation in neighboring territories 'do what you want'. That doesn't necessarily mean that vlad can just walk into neighboring states and take over, the point is that the message is a green light.

- ME, If I read his allusion correctly 'Hey bibi, I'll give you more support, just kill off hamas and hezbollah, oh heck just kill off the ideology' Yeah like that's gonna happen, it'll just fuel and escalate the war.

- *The liberal democratic alliance and NATO etc., if I read his allusion correctly 'Hey world, it's about us first, we don't wanna be part of globablization, unless it's on our terms'

^ This is my biggest fear, the weakening of the liberal democratic alliance, this directly effects us.

Worse given we're the most so ready to obey both Chuck and Sam, wouldn't be surprised if trump would use us as a disposable attack dog (more so than now) like vlad does use his own military and citizens as a meat grind. Of course this is all speculative, none the less fairly warranted speculation.

* My wild desperate hope is trumps wish for isolation will galvanize the allies, even then without the current 'level of support' from the overwhelming super power, this sends a invitation to non democracies for their wishes like Xi. So my 'optimism' is moot anyway.

All of the above hasn't even tapped into the impact of the likely global trade wars with his tarrifs game, or even the impact domestically, or even the allusion of abandonment of the Paris agreement, basically a 'meh, climate change pfft'

Yeah I know I'm gonna cop criticism for hyperbole, regardless you can't just hand wave away trumps words.

Of course he can't just implement his wishes at a whim, the senate and the HOR have say and influence. Normally I'd 'meh', however there's concern that the repugs might also have the upper hand in the senate and HOR.

How moderate or radical are those repugs?

I think it's somewhere in between, and for me that's already, at the most optimistic, not at all good.

Anyway 'Armageddon outta here' < too soon?

All he'll do is sell US national policy to the highest bidders, make him and his mates richer. The only positives to come out of this will be to his and his mates bank accounts

So basically if Trump doesn't do anything he says he is going to do, we will be ok.

I feel relieved.

They also don’t necessarily seem to understand that you only pay that top rate on the amount you earn over the threshold. Not a total.

Do people turn down a pay rise so they don’t go up a threshold?
