Been looking at the numbers all day. Staggering to think that neither candidate reached the lofty heights of 2020.
Had the Dems actually managed to be for the workers and progressives I dont think yesterday happens. But at the present that ain't happening any time soon.
I fear its going to take the republicans basically going all the way with their authoritarian/fascist tendancies before we get any such movement.

Either that or dems go even more fascisty ensuring the likes of Musk, Thiel can do whatever they like regardless of who is in charge, basically taking the current corporate oligarchy a step further.

A very cheery vision of the future.

Maybe paying income tax of 40-50% is a crazy scenario for you, but not for everyone.

You’re definitely not paying 60% income tax as you initially said. You’re also definitely not paying 50% income tax as you’re now trying to argue.

You’re also still not likely paying even 40% of your income as tax either given at $190k p.a you’re paying less than 30% of your income as tax.

Perhaps you need to talk to your accountant about how the tax system works next time you meet.

Surprise surprise. In 6 months a lot of people will be like "wtf this shit sucks, I don't get lower prices just added fascism?"
This is why I feel sorry for the people caught in the middle of this, there were people who voted to avoid this and I hope when it all goes to shit in 2 years time they are the loudest and I hope they keep receipts.

Its all for nothing if the Dems **** up their next Presidential pick, and considering how they have now bottled 2/3 elections it must be a really bad time in history to be a Sydney Swans/Democrats supporter.

Allan lichtman said he will make a video in the next few days explaining where his 13 keys system went wrong

No, you simply didn't understand income tax. You spoke about where a person lives. It's a tax levied on income. Only some pay the highest marginal rate, and even fewer pay State Tax in the US.

You were whining about someone living in a remote cabin paying 60% income tax (presumably to justify Trump's tariff policy) and that applies to zero people out of ~331 million.

Paying a maximum of almost 50% might apply to a few hundred remote cabin dwellers in the US. Out of 331 million. I assume you can work out percentages.

So, it was the usual disingenuous shit to support Trump's garbage policy, based on profound ignorance.
Please. Take a breath. Centre yourself and relax. You have clearly miscomprehended what I was saying. It's okay, maybe you're upset today, maybe you just have poor comprehension. Chill out dude, the demon you're fighting in your mind isn't there.

For context, the below was my original post: in response to a poster saying that a tarriff is a tax. Have a read of it again.

Not that I agree with the tariff v income tax argument but at least a tariff only applies to things you consume. Income tax is taken unilaterally. You could live in a chalet in the Forrest with your own power and still pay 60% of your income to the Government. Under a tariff system, theoretically you pay for what you consume, if you consume less you contribute less.

Now I don't think he's actually going to do that but it does raise an interesting question of fairness.

Note the use of the words: "could" and "theoretically". Do you need me to define these for you, or have you woken up now and are thinking straight?

The post was only about the fairness on the individual of an income tax versus an alternative revenue raising mechanism such as tariffs. It wasn't about specific taxes. It wasn't saying this was a realistic example. It wasn't saying it applied to everyone. It was simply saying that from one perspective you can argue that a tariff regime is fairer than an income tax regime because it applies to consumption not creation.

I wasn't talking, pro or against, US income tax levels. It was a theoretical scenario to examine a conceptual difference between tariffs and income tax as a form of Government Revenue Raising.

Now please stop talking to me.

Playing semantics here. A top income tax rate of 45% kicking in where it does is a national disgrace on its own, let alone when you add the GST, fuel levy, medicare levy, alcohol levy, emergency services levy, stamp duty, licencing fee's, council rates and a million other stealth taxes. Miles over 60% in aggregate.

Not at all, he was very clear he meant income tax.

People misunderstanding how the tax system works is very common, the more people who actually understand how it works, the better informed their choices can be on tax policies in future.

I'm normally a let people feel their feelings but some of the hyperbole on places like Reddit is too insane to not be funny.

2 standouts so far
One said they want to flush their dead fathers ashes who died in 2021 because he voted Trump last time, others agreeing they should because he voted for the KKK, mass of upvotes.

Another said if they didn't have children they would end it all because why bother.

Seriously unhinged commentary.

Don't get me wrong, storming the capital is obviously insane.

Will US politics continue to be this volatile when Trump is gone? Feels like it's been at boiling point for a decade, democratic process is being challenged endlessly by the extreme sides.

When it does go to shit (lets hope it doesn't), you will have a mix of this from those enjoying the Trump win:

1. Trump? I never heard of the guy
2. They will rationalise anything he has done as being good or not that bad or hyperbole (no matter what it is, he could kick off full scale war with Iran, and the supporters will be convinced its a good thing, but also Trump anti war, or something)
3. I liked him until such and such an event (like actually going through on abortion ban, tariffs plan, illegal immigrants in camps etc)
4. Dems would be worse regardless of anything Trump does.

There will be people who will defend him no matter what, as there is a whole ecosystem set to defend him against literally anything, no matter how contradictory. So even if Iran is nuked off the map, many of these these same people in this thread will say "yeah he did it to save the world".

LOL. Ignorance is bliss for the Trumpies.

I think things are going to get worse before they get better, I think that still tracks regardless of who won the election.

In two years, Trump will start ranting about Antifa again.

I don't currently live in Australia.

Americans certainly get it. They just gave Trump a massive mandate to cut taxes and slash government spending 👍
