Rental increases have gone nuts the last few years, housing is a real and pressing problem for a lot of people and the plans both LNP and the ALP come up with aren't really intended to do much. We genuinely do need to plan for long-term or life-long renting being a 'thing' in Australia now, when it really hasn't been that way in past generations.

As for the Greens rental policy, there's a bit more detail FWIW:

So is there also going to be an immediate Council Rates Freeze. An immediate Mortgage Freeze. An immediate water rates freeze too when the Greens freeze rents. Or do they simply expect the landlord to pay for it?

So build public and affordable housing and adjust the tax settings.

I am a massive fan of the new tax settings in Victoria and they have very quickly affected house prices here. I think they are a bit harsh on holiday homes (not that I have one) but they are fair enough otherwise IMO. Anyone arguing that changing the negative gearing and CGT on investment properties will not make any difference look at house prices immediately fall relative to other states in Victoria once tax settings were adjusted.

The answer is not to cap rents. You cannot cap rents anymore than you can cap petrol prices or the cost of a banana.

Construction inflation is through the roof - no one will build anything if you introduce price controls.

The housing crisis we find our selves in is because all governments have ignored their responsibility to provide public and affordable housing for 3 or 4 decades and because tax settings have made housing a commodity and simultaneously made Australia the laziest economy in the world.

Cut immigration massively mostly students that end up not going home.
OVer time if we can build more houses than people coming into the country things will stabilise
In time the rental stress goes down, as availability frees up.
Currently its quite hard for people to even move suburbs as housing is soo tight.

Labor or the Greens won't do the actual thing that will make the most difference, as they are afraid of being called racist?

Leave essential workers coming in nurses, doctors etc, but also reduce fees for these courses, but add conditions.
I.e if study nursing in WA must work in WA public hospital for 4 years then HECS debt gets paid by govt.
Similar to Doctors - if work in public system for 6 years, then HECS debt paid by govt.
That will encourage students to continue to study in degrees that are needed for government jobs. And hopefully stop us stealing essential workers from other countries, that when they come to australia, have to relearn the australin way of doign things and also get over the language barrier.
The Liberals never changed immigration settings. Not once.

You have been conned. Again.

Trump is by no measure 'centre right'.

The right is drifting further right. The left (not the online kind, the actual major political parties kind) are drafting further right.

There's no major economically left-wing party that I can thing of. It's all pretty stock standard moderate right-wing economics with a smattering of some socially left stuff.

Voting for economically right-wing stuff is basically at-odds with what would actually help middle-to-low income earners.

This is how the Murdochs and Musks of the world shift the overton window as well. Eventually their targets start believing things like universal healthcare and education are "far left" politics. It's the vision they want for Australia.

I’ve seen your posts, you’re barely coherent, I don’t care about what anyone believes, beliefs are broadcasting your blind ignorant stupidity.
You either understand something and are educated on the matter or you have a “belief”.
That’s life.👍
And you're educated on the matter? really, don't make me laugh, you're a small minded man that has to make digs at people to pump himself up. Im all over you!

If you haven't read Trump's brilliant policies to Make America Great Again, it's fantastic
Wow, some real zingers there! These in particular gave me a good laugh...
55. Bible study will be instituted in public schools.

Dunno , where did the money come from?
I know Musk gave trump $132 million and the bastard coal barons gave millions and the Proud Boys chipped in and the racist Pillow guy and the Brietbart people donated to trump.
