Terrible.
Busy airport traffic can be very dangerous and approach/landing is the most dangerous part of any flight.

Washington has a high percentage of military helicopters transferring persons in\out so not unusual to have them about.

This however is a monumental ****-up on someones behalf.

Plenty of military airports or dual-use airports have helicopters and fixed wing aircraft in reasonably close proximity - in this instance it appears at the preliminary stage that the Blackhawk was well out of position if the AA aircraft was cleared to land and the runway was confirmed.

Scarily, near misses are more common than most people realise.

Why isn't Pete out there doing his duty as DOD? My guess would he is too drunk to be on the camera.

This is all Donald's fault. First commercial airline incident in 17 years. He must resigned.

60 passengers and 4 crew on the plane, 3 people on the helicopter.

So there are likely 67 victims, as there is virtually no chance of finding survivors now.

And they crashed in hypothermic conditions

I highly doubt anyone survives if they haven’t already been pulled out of that water

Thats actually pretty well put. HE NEEDS THE ANSWER as the leader of the "most" powerful nation of the world.

Seems pretty unqualified to me.
"But why didn't they just do this thing my magical thinking just invented?"

Congress bill added flights to Reagan National airport despite Democratic opposition

In April 2024, Congress announced a $105b FAA reauthorization bill.

The bill raised hiring targets for air traffic control but it also added flights to Reagan National airport, despite opposition from Democratic senators from Maryland and Virginia.

Democrats Mark Warner and Tim Kaine of Virginia and Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen of Maryland vowed to “continue to fight against this ridiculous and dangerous provision.”

One of the first things Trump did was fire 3k air traffic controllers.

Actions have consequences.
