Retirements of greats and huge unavailabilities and the loss of key players from last years team has absolutely killed therry this year.

Denis Castaldi, Michael Elliot, Steve Boyle, Jason Halmes are 4 players of the highest quality that were lost from last years team just to name a few. The lack of juniors and the not genuine connection with the school is what is hurting therry the most because young quality players are already at district clubs nearby which makes it hard to recruit and get a quality 19s side together every year and hence breed through the ranks. Also with the amount of A Grade EDFL clubs in nearby suburbs also makes it almost impossible for therry to lure quality senior players ( and on the flipside can cause a few players to be lured away)

NOBS are in almost the exact same situation as therry (both in B grade in 2001) due to no juniors and are finding it had to stay in the higher grades. Two clubs with great history need to find something and cannot just put up with mediocrity

And the same at OP's, had top U19's last season but very few have stayed on, that's because preseason letter stated that none of them will be looked at for senior selection no matter how well they play.. They also had the largest Junior club (St Mary's ) who have walked out on them(due to no support from the Op's) to Watsonia, now the OP's have St Damian's with a strong connection, the St D's U17's are pretty good and are coached by OP's senior coach and hopefully they'll go across nextseason, but not if they won't look at .them for senior selection.
Oh and they are in financial trouble..

D1 looks to me like a very unpredictable section this year.

Can anyone explain to me how a side like Hampton Rovers can be 2-3 142%, winning 2 games by well over 100 points then lose to Penisula at home by 10 goals?

Will this be the patern for the rest of the year or will things settle down?

Thats why they have formed the fightback club.... To try and get them out of financial trouble. Wonder if its actually working.

Heard a very funny story come out of there cocktail night the other week. A longtime serving player of the club was talking to young bloke during the night. This longtime player found out the young bloke was associated with a nearby club in Montmornecy. The conversation went something like "Ohh Monty... There the club that loves to choke come finals..." The young blokes reply was straight to the point "What grade now mate.. How many grades have you dropped now.." Lets put it this way, the older bloke was not to happy.. But he has to face reality.

Old Paradians are doomed!!!!!!!!

No support to St Mary's ????
Grounds to train & play on, Training session & dinner with senior coach for Colts side etc
Reason they are at A K Lines Res is due to school restricting ground use due to the drought this year. St Mary's dont have an official affiliation with any senior club.

I thought that was the case. Very surprised no senior footy club has tried to, considering they are one of biggest junior footy clubs in Victoria.

Thats strange. I wonder why several of last years and this years Under 19s are currently playing one's. Please get your facts correct before you post. The above post makes a great fiction story but is simply not correct in any regard.

Champ saw the letter written by spinner, so don't tell me I'm lying, the reason why they are playing is either they are no longer Un19's or because your short of players. It clearly stated in the letter that"you'll be playing 2 years in the U19's"How many of last years U19 1st Semi side are actually playing there? How many St Mary's U17's from last year are playing there?, How many of St Damian's U17's from last year are playing there or nominated OP's as their club if there at the Knights?.

St Mary's you'll find are affliated with Watsonia, the Watsonia committee when their 19's are not playing on Friday night are at the St Mary's rooms watching the footy on the big screen.Sure St Marys want AK Lines because it gives them great exposure, but it one of the big reasons was that St Damian's got the front ground for their 17's to train on and let St Mary's asa 2nd cousin cause a major issue within the St Mary's Board.
Anyway hope you all get your year back into line and that your financial situation improves, because we don't want any club going out of existance

Or do we want a club to go out of existance???

Sounds like you have a good grudge against the boys from the Garvey.

Watsonia have been trying to get a Junior club on their ground ever since they nearly folded. They tried real hard with St Damian's but they said no.
St Mary's were more receptive and deal was done middle of last year.

Ther are St Mary's 2006 U17's playing in the 19's at Watsonia

As already stated, St Mary's have no official affiliation with any club !
Who cares who is drinking cans on a Friday night in the St M rooms ? If i am a colts player i can go wherever i like at end of year - affiliation means f*** all !
St Marys $ St D have always alternated Garvey oval - and done so for years. Only became issue last year when Mr Prescious & his committee let their egos go wild. They may be the biggest junior club in the world/universe but theyre far from the BEST !
BTW, who would want to play at Watsonia ? They are the Fitzroy Reds of NMFL - plenty of numbers but very little quality !

Reliable source says they had a terrible day. Only a handful turned up to play, which was quite the opposite for Peninsula. A young side that may be prone to inconsistencies too. Could possibly also be indicative of the gap between the competition and Yarra Valley & OP who were the 2 big wins.

Sounds like a few people would rather play for Watsonia and Fitzroy Reds then Old Paradians at the moment, if they have good numbers. BTW, you are bagging other clubs when you are struggling in D1. From all reports, both are finacially better off then the boys at the Garvey as well.

The important phrase you have chosen to use is 'at the moment'.
All clubs have their 'highs & lows' and presently OPs are having an all time low. However, this club has proved in the past that it has some backbone & would expect it to recover - even if it takes several years !
They have much work to do & know it.

$$$$ - dont make me laugh ! If watsonia perform poorly this year they will be stuffed. They have been up & down like a yoyo the past 10 years.
OPs - the generation of revenue through sponsors, fightback club & rejuvenated social events is the best it has been in 10 years. No finance worries at OPs.

At least Paradians have won a couple of games unlike Therry who look destined to make the drop already.

I am not calling you a liar, I am simply telling you that you are wrong. Please don't post when you really have no idea of what is happening.

They'll double drop. Can't accept where they're at. As proud as they proclaim to be, there seems to be nothing but excuses and aversions to other clubs' situations.

I have been saying that for some time and been ridiculed! I like the way on their website they are carrying on about their record at the Garvey! Wow they have beaten Therry and Yarra there by very narrow margins , one with Boundy playing! Impressive!

Did they win just one there last year? They may have won their last home game for the year last week.

Bulleen, with a significant milestone game, will pump them this week.

yeh just a quick one guys...250 senior games to Dean 'Kenyan' Matthews this saturday against Old Parade...not only a great servent to the club but also one of the best blokes to come out of the ammos and we are very lucky to have him down at bulleen temp...not to mention hasnt aged a single year the young man!!! :thumbsu:

You are obviously a die hard OP , but face the fact, the letter was out, ask any of the 19's who aren't playing there this season. The correspondent did not say St M and St D players had to play at OP's when finished at U17 level, I think what h is trying to say if OP's really cared about them during the season, more if at least one would have played there this season.
Bag Fitzroy and Watsonia as much as you like, but going from B Grade to D2 in 4 seasons should be reason not to..eh?
