Happy to accept fwiwFWIW new vafa president creating a big footy account and the Herald Sun doing a write up on Div1-Div4 recruits, what other nuggets does 2024 have in store? Bedford as the new mod?

Give WA a lot of credit for coming back from 38 points down at halftime to push the VAFA team all the way and force a draw at the end of normal time yet didn't have any petrol left in the tank by the end of the extra time period. Fine effort from the WA boys today at Elsternwick Park. One from Hampton and one from GE (broken wrist) was the best VAFA could find. Surely some C grade players would be a shoe in after watching the game today on my computer.
Personally I've always thought there are better places to spend the money than on players.Sorry I respect your opinion but Im just someone who has run his own business and been Treasurer of a district VAFA Club:
Our turnover was about $150K pa so an additional $20k revenue & $10K profit was damn useful but not material in the total financial context
No easy ask for sponsors in the likely future near term economic environment (recession?)
How much do I need for paid players budget in the NFNL to ensure competitiveness? 4 - 6 players x $’S/match x 18. - just play with the numbers - $500/match? - $45,000 for 5 players? therefore $35,000 in additional sponsorship to break even - mmmm!
100% agree but if u want to play in the NFNL, paying players is probably part of the deal?!Personally I've always thought there are better places to spend the money than on players.
Spend it making sure you have a full complement of non playing roles sorted each week, spend it upgrading the facilities, spend it giving the players free dinners. (I've heard this is a great recruiting tactic)
Better ROI raising the overall experience for everyone than there is in bringing in a couple mercenaries imo. And as you point out- perhaps less of a false economy.
If people think it is about a few beer sales and a couple of a hoodies you are kidding yourself. Also, NO club has moved from ammo's to a professional competition and stated handing out huge cash - it's been incremental.Sorry I respect your opinion but Im just someone who has run his own business and been Treasurer of a district VAFA Club:

What would you suggest the VAFA should offer? If people think it is about a few beer sales and a couple of a hoodies you are kidding yourself. Also, NO club has moved from ammo's to a professional competition and stated handing out huge cash - it's been incremental.
My club is in a challenging position right now and looking at options. I applaud them for it. The ammo's are offering nothing to support a low level district club - nothing. So why not LOOK at options?

It's not solely about the beer/food sales (even though both were pumping from 1/2 time of the magoos. If people think it is about a few beer sales and a couple of a hoodies you are kidding yourself. You are comparing the atmosphere at a Div 1 game and a Div 5 VAFA game….really???It's not solely about the beer/food sales (even though both were pumping from 1/2 time of the magoos.
The atmosphere at half time onwards In the twos was 5 times that if vafa grand final. People mingling, supporting whilst having a beer.
Mind you it was 2 teams outside top 5 so pretty impressive crowd.
I went to 2 D2 games the week before and there was 30 people around the club rooms of both games. These clubs must really struggle to make a $!
Same day I drove past Eastern Football game and gate entry was $10.
Ivanhoe committee would be mad not to go IMO!

Why didn't you ask themLike to know how come both Victoria & WA in the rep game on Saturday used the Sherrin football for the entire match instead of also having the WA football (the Burley (yellow) football) used as well. In the old days when it's ie Victoria and SA, the Sherrin football would be used for the 1st and 3rd quarter, the Ross Faulkner (the SA ball), the 2nd and final quarter.

Is there still a place for amateur representative/interstate football on the VAFA calendar after yesterday's match at Elsternwick Park between the VAFA and WA going forward?
On 5002X using BigFooty.com mobile app
I have no idea - but looking at Kinglake who moved this year you would think placed in Div 3In the event that you did move, what grade would you guys be placed in?
What I've been told - some open/happy to change some cautious to it. Same as coaches, sponsors, staff, etc. Not sure what will happen as conversations still ongoing.BT,
What about your men's thirds teams, women's side and your Junior Club? Are they all happy with you to move comps?
Give WA a lot of credit to come from 38 points down at halftime on Saturday, when you consider they were looking right down the barrel of a 10+ goal hiding, and remembering WA's poor record in interstate footy of any level in Melbourne. The VAFA v WA epic game at Elsternwick Park brought back memories of those classic State of Origin games between the two great football States at Subiaco Oval in 1983, 1984 and 1986. However, agree that Victoria was making sure that none of the top players got injured/reported and were playing in second gear mode, especially with the relegation battles and spots for finals places looming, while WA was playing as if the state's football reputation was on the line, considering the poor form of the Eagles and Dockers in the AFL and their State League team got beaten by SA.I think there is a place for rep footy, but I think that something like an end of season carnival is probably the best place for it in the calendar.
From all reports, WA were a lot better than expected and a few VAFA players were clearly playing in preservation mode with most of them playing in sides well and truly looking to win a flag in September.
They haven't said anything but I'm guessing (and hoping) that it's 2 up/1down from C to D3/4What's the situation regarding promotion/relegation in Premier C this year? Is it two up/two down like in other sections?
Two up to BWhat's the situation regarding promotion/relegation in Premier C this year? Is it two up/two down like in other sections?
Two problems emerge from having a carnival:1) whether mid or end of season carnival, Victoria won't give SA or WA much of a look in. Of the 21 AAFC carnivals held since 1936, Victoria has won 15, SA 5, WA 1. Which means that the VAFA would make the carnival be a one-horse race, have SA, WA and NSW or Tasmania fight out for second and could raise serious questions about the future of representative/interstate football. The other problem is the attitude of some of the Premier clubs who are fearful of losing their star players to serious injuries (think Tony Hall in the 1989 Vic v SA game) with relegation battles and finals spots on the line later in the season.I think there is a place for rep footy, but I think that something like an end of season carnival is probably the best place for it in the calendar.

Wouldn't have been many that watched itHow would you guys on Big Footy rate the VAFA and WA's performance in last Saturday's State game out of 10?
