Would be a sad loss given how successful they were in the comp for so long.

Ivanhoe have been a great club with great people for many years. No doubt all options have been considered. Just a really sad day for our competition that a club with 100 plus years of history & tradition needs to look elsewhere to survive and thrive.
Good luck to Pete and his commitee over the next few weeks.

Opens a new can of worms in the divisions about promotion/relegation too. Do they want 4x 8 team divisions or 2x 10 and a D3 of 12?

I would guess the latter. So most likely 2 up/0 down unless by request.

As you can imagine, it was THE topic of conversation at the club lunch yesterday as the President addressed everything to those in attendance.

Chump 🏆
Chumpy, as a stalwart of the Hoes, you would've been there front and centre!
How did the crowd react when Rawls made the announcement?

It was another good opportunity for people to ask questions Brainy, and there were many throughout the afternoon - as you would expect with a topic such as this. It's been a long process for them (9-10 months) and there was a fair amount of detail around things and how they have come to this point in the process.

How many life members do Ivanhoe have? Besides players who you’d imagine Would mostly support the idea do you expect much opposition?

I'm not sure of how many life members the club has but the general consensus at Saturdays lunch was that people were open to it and players on board.

A few questions asked that the committee is looking into with the NFNL, but my feeling was the room was positive. I had a few cans though at the lunch 😊

On the rare occasions I've been to Ivanhoe to watch a game of footy, I certainly enjoyed a beer on the tiered seating in front of the rooms. The twilight games were also quite popular.

It will be missed

FWIW has the Committee gone and watched any Div 3 NFNL games as part of their research?
No idea if anyone from the committee has, but they have played Eltham Turtles the past 3 years in a row in praccy games and have a few players come/go from Div 3 teams in recent times. Why?

I think it’s a rabbit hole that I wouldn’t want an amateur club to go down, how many semi-professional and country clubs have folded in recent years? Without knowing the going ons at Ivanhoe, perhaps exploring a merger with another VAFA team may make sense?

Having said that, Banyule seems to have made a fist of it changing competitions, but how long will that last?

It would give the NFNL 30 teams, which is perfect for 3 divisions tbh
Two of the division 3 teams (Lalor and Reservoir) are struggling and their future isn't assured. The travel Ivanhoe faces (Kinglake, Kilmore etc.) isnt always local either. The change to NFL will have some people scratching their heads.
