The sad thing is if you go back to the same thread last year after we got thrashed by Sydney you'll find all the same criticisms. I bet in 12 months time we'll be having the exact same conversation again.

We backed the wrong horse to lead our midfield, and we'll be consigned to years of mediocrity unless he is moved on. And he won't be; the club is in love with him. His lack of agility is embarrassing and his opponent each week must be licking his lips running onto the ground.

i wonder who you're talking about

- people rating Smith's & Cripp's games, they would have been 2 of the worst performers today. Cripps was put in the middle cause he wasn't doing anything anywhere else and was put in there as a tag and Smith saunters around the ground like its his right

What on earth are you talking about? Cripps was playing a defensive role on Malceski most the game and did pretty well. Smith was our best rebounding defender. Did you watch the game?

Strongly disagree, Smith was solid and had a few promising dashes.

I thought his disposal was dead average as usual. However, the difference was this week he got himself into more attacking positions and actually used his pace as a weapon more often than he has before. He should stay when Waters comes back, Schofield should go. Hopefully Smith gets a run for the rest of the season.

Bolded ones I really don't get.

Why don't our forward pocket players lead to the forward pockets to drag defenders away from the danger area at the top of the square, then kick to our talls there?

this this this. I was at the game today in the pocket and there was a josh hill hater who every time kept yelling at him to lead and not stand there. But nearly every time there was a player 15m in front, who would just stand there too . Nobody created space for each other all game. Incredibly frustrating.

+ve's

Lecras was good around the ground, actually saw him lay tackles for once
Smith provided some run, not sure he went against his opponent though

-ve's

Selwood is done
Dalziell 15 touches, had minimal influence

Cripps got 7 kicks(1 clanger) Malceski had 22 disposals(1 clanger) with better efficiency......you're right, sorry

He was running at 86%?

Positives :thumbsu:
Worsfold FINALLY admits that our chances of playing finals this year are slim *clap clap*

Masten all year has been our best midfielder, it's amazing how much love you can get for a player when he does well.

Likewise Kennedy. You can tell it's a complete class difference whenever the ball goes near JK. He attacks it hard, he uses his skills, he uses both feet when he has to, and he tries all game. Does it all.

Mckenzie yet again had the better of the oppositions full forward. Not many people had him in there best, but i did.

Morton. I told yall he needed a full game, and just look how he performed in a half. Sure, he didn't have a man on him and probably didn't hurt the opposition, but he did some good things. Give him a full game next week ffs.

Negatives

Hopefully this is the last we will see of A.Selwood. Now is it just me, or do we seem to ALWAYS see him trailing after players running towards goal a lot more now? First it was White, then it was Lamb i think. It's just hilarious.

We must have some of the least effective centre clearances in the league. I said it last week and i say it again this week. There is literally no point in us winning it directly out of the guts, because 3 seconds later the opposition turns it over and is pumping it into there attacking 50 instead.

MC starting morton as the sub again.

MC playing an obviously injured Shuey. Out for 3 weeks, comes back and plays 1 half then gets hurt again. Awesome.

Slowest team in the AFL, nothing new.

Smiths kicking.

Browns overall game, just yuck. Jesse white dominated him all game. Pleasetradepleasetradepleasetradepleasetrade.

The modern game is clearly beyond you. The days of judging field position on where players are running too is kind of over. Cripps played most of the game forward of center.

He wasn't on him the entire game and it's not like he was a defender or a tagger when he was.

His numbers have always been flattered by the fact that he kicks long to contests.

So what? an effective short kick might not be worth half an ineffective long kick. Did you could credit him for his damaging disposals? i don't think so.

Smith must go- he has no intensity or passion about his football. If we can't con some sucker into taking him off our hands, then just pi$$ him off.

Is it just me or does Smith look like a pimp? I can just see him with a toothpick in his mouth exploiting and standing over a string a street hookers.

+ Liked Morton's run
+ Kennedy, Masten, Glass etc
+ Wellers coming out unscathed
+ Atleast we can see how much we miss the class of Hurn/Shuey etc.

- Hill needs to be dropped, hangs back off packs and contests far too often. How's Brad Dick's form been?
- General ball movement and decision making is shocking. They looked scared to go down the corridor.
- Cox and NicNat both look like they need a rest. Bring in Lycett/Sinclair for one of them next week.
- Shuey getting injured again - he was having a good game too.

-ves
-We will probably win the next two weeks and everyone will say we a are a chance to make the finals. We're not. Unfortunately we can't beat a team anywhere near the 8.
-Please rest Nic Nat
-Can we bring Hurn back, bung ankle and all, as he will still be a better kick out of goal
-Our midfield keeps getting smashed. We only have one big body midfielder in Shuey and need more guys that can break away from stoppages
-Kerr's report
-Disposal is poor
-Cox is now missing free kicks he deserves because umpires are over him playing for them

+ves
-Today we lost to a better team. Sydney are elite. I think only the Hawks are a better team.
-Adam Selwood wasn't worst on ground. He wasn't good, but wasn't the worst player on the ground. When he plays that's a good thing.
-I ripped into Ash Smith the last few weeks, but he was pretty good today
-Kennedy will pass Suma as our all time goal kicker if he doesn't have any major injury problems.
-While Morton was decent, I'm not convinced he will be a regular player.
-Shuey looked good before the injury
-Carter looks half decent. Better than the Shepard option.
-Glass is a champion

POSITIVES

We didn't give up and let the result blow out to 10 goals plus, against a seriously good side, considering all of our outs it was better than i expected.

NEGATIVES

Our strength and conditioning coaches, what did they do in pre season to get us prepared for a 23 round season, it seems like we have the same injury concerns each year for the last 3 seasons and cannot finish a season with a full compliment of players. Until we can do that we will never seriously challenge for a flag no matter who is coaching.

Scooter and especially Shue both have inside ability...maybe if we designed more of our inside work to go through those guys, instead of a slow, un-creative, un-agile, poor user of the footy...we'd look a bit better through the middle of the ground.

Without taking away from his effort (I was a fan of his today), it is worth noting that Morton was the loose man in defense almost the entire time he was on the ground. Hopefully next week he gets a full game in a more accountable role, he is showing some promise and he did work hard.

Why does he have to be a more accountable player? Plenty of good players in the comp who play unaccountable roles

So you're saying his entire career should be as a loose man? I don't think that is the correct game plan, and he should either play as a true HBF or on the wing, and he would need to be accountable in either position. Do you really think we can afford any unaccountable players in the team?

I reckon Cripps should be a tagger or forward tagger once he bulks up a bit. He's a strong tackler and has clean hands. Definitely needs kicking practice though

A lot of talk about us possibly drafting this Bontempelli guy, hopefully he already has a nickname lined up because that is a mouthful.

I would absolutely LOVE the Eagles to draft Bontempelli (based on what I saw of the Under 18's Championship), but I don't think that he would be a "clearence" player. He seemed more of the sort of player who would add the outside speed that the team needs, plus height, size and the ability to take a mark if moved forward.
