Big question for me is how the players develop. I believe the core group are capable and talented enough to take Fremantle to their first premiership with only some minor tinkering. The desire, killer instinct and on field leadership, that part is the key ingredient to drag consistent finals out of the group. The steel, the sure hands under pressure, never give up, belief they can win. It has to develop it cant be manufactured.

I dont understand what selection integrity means in a practical sense. You have 40 odd players on your list for the year. It's max a full 2 teams. Sure you can drop a few players but you are committed to most via contract over a multi year period and that means the decision to play multiple games has to be made before the season even starts. So drop Banners, bring in Brody or Reidy but it's limited what can be done and who is ready to be selected and go from both fitness and positional perspective.. When you think about it dropping people every time they have a bad game can destroy confidence. Fine balance as to how to get the best out of what youve got and I would argue there is at least as strong an argument for maintaining faith in players you picked to carry you through the season initially. Having said that. Luke Jackson frustrates the c*ap out of me. Cancel his contract now.

Hawthorn will go past us on the ladder today.

****ing Hawthorn.

If we play finals I think we will actually have to play them at the MCG in an elimination final possibly 7th.

There Rebuild has caught potentially on par with ours and going to be a nemesis again come September.

Imagine someone telling you that after Round 5.

You have would have laughed and said they were taking the piss.

It’s a laugh looking back at everyone ( AFL wide ) pencilling in the 4 points against Hawthorn when the fixtures were released at the start of the season

Who’s laughing now (Insert Ginnivan GIF )

This whole season up until the last 3 weeks has wallpapered over the cracks of our list. Everyone saying we should be top 4. I don’t even think we are top 8 yet. Our depth is shite. Top 4 teams can win without KP players. Port didn’t have Marshall or Georgieades and still won. We are 3-4 A graders and 3 or 4 B grade depth players away from contending

I just think it is a case of whether you should keeping playing low baseline players or young or aging players when they are out of form or look like they are flagging Surely that is an opportunity to bring in fresh players who are playing well and are in form in the wafl.

Had a top two spot lined up and are now relying on the Roos, Tigers and Eagles

Could you get anymore Freo than that?

But how many AFL standard players are willing to bide their time in the 2’s until injury?
Guys like Meek, Logue even Hamling & Tucker are vulnerable to being picked off by oppo clubs.

It’s how we could poach Clark & Aish.

I agree in theory but we are not talking about a lot of players really. The big mystery this year is Brodie but he wasn't fantastic in 2023. In 2022 you could argue it was really Mundy carrying us along. Who is replacement for Banners? Is it Erasmus? Lets take Cox, if he went this week who would we bring in ... Davies seems only genuine replacement unless we swing Voss back? Its not as easy as some make out.

Can remember a quote from the Dragon Lady her self, Caroline Wilson, during our post 2015 period. She was asked to comment on us in general terms. She used one word that’s why it stuck with me and she nailed it, from 2016 - 2024 it sums us up “Flaky”. How spot on was she !!

It is more about refreshing a team that is drooping as much as anything. Why always have the incumbent doing nothing for weeks on end.Use that as an opportunity to bring in fresh and developing players who are in good form We have a lot of versatility in our midfield now. We could have easily mixed things up a bit. If Brodie was able to combine well with Mundy, he could also combine well with the mix we have now. Suggesting that it is ok to sit Fyfe and Johnson on the bench for largish portions of the game but not Brodie or Erasmus is just bloody minded. Anyone can do better than the 1 possession that Jaeger has been getting in the last quarters

I seem to all of a sudden having opinions close to yours apuchar on a consistent basis A. Im a glass half full supporter who's never even contributed to this thread before but I can't stay quiet on JL coaching yesterday particularly after watching Peel on th AFL app after the AFL game. How Cox was left on the field when we could have subbed him out was beyond absurd when Chapman or Ryan could have been moved onto Jesse. Even Voss would have been a better option than playing a player who couldn't run. Im also sick of some players getting free rides and Im not talking about looking at the stats but watching the game. Fyfe played on Kelly amn kept him quiet yet was subbed off when Johnson or Cox should have been subbed off. Banfield was terrible yet he'll be picked next week despite having a woeful month of football. Erasmus, Brodie and Aish arent in the team yet it seems Johnson can have minimal impact without getting dropped and yes id prefer any of the 3 players playig wafl even if they played Banfields role.

I don't agree with this at all. Im absolutely convinced that out playing list is much better than at any time in our history. Obviously our best 22 isn't all A graders, it never will be. But most importantly our worst 6 isn't that bad.'It's easy to bag out guys like Banfield, Walker and Sturt, but they're all players capable of playing really good games. We're probably lacking that season or 2 extra in experience, but on sheer talent I reckon we're all there but for a small forward or 2.

The question we should be asking is why can we play better football than any team in the league for long periods but struggle early in the game when every player is fresh and late in (close) games when the pressure is on? It's a cop out to try and say there's a mental issue with players when our gameplan relies so much on sharing the ball around in the clinches. I agree that it looks really good when it works, but when you turn the ball over around the stoppages it's a freaking nightmare to defend against as we've all run forward of the ball expecting it to go there. At least if we kick it inside 50 and turn the ball over from there we've got the players back that can defend against the rebound.

It's hard to get excited when (IMO at least) it's all flawed in the coaches box. If we somehow scrape into finals how are we going to handle the pressure then when it goes up a couple more notches?

What about our so called A/B graders like Cox and Ryan and Darcy? They are shit and don’t take football seriously. Have a look at their body shapes and then have a look at the body shapes of similar players in the top echelon of clubs. They don’t care. They don’t care about the club, the members, other players and they certainly don’t care about playing finals as it is too much extra work for them. Funny how they all came out of the same draft too.

Lol, they're not shit. Cox had a shocker yesterday but generally he's our most reliable KPD after Pearce, Luke Ryan will probably make AA this year and Darcy is one of the best ruckmen in the league, at least when he's fit (and I acknowledge that doesn't happen often enough).

I repeat, why are we better than pretty much every team for long periods in every game, but struggle at the start of the game, and the last quarter when it's close? Answer that and you'll find out what our problems really are.

When Walters showed up to preseason in bad shape Lyon banished him to the WAFL. Doing that set Walters up for a very productive 200+ game career. It’s up to the coach to set standards.

we are bottom 4 level and we are been found out, how long until longmuir is sacked, he must go immediately

No we aren't

We have narrowly lost to two top 8 potentially top 4 teams without our most important key back and key forward. Fyfe missed last week too. Our number one ruck also injured. We would be top 4 if they were available.

Look at Carlton now out of 8 due to injuries. Our best is top 4 and our youth is developing nicely.

You are going on emotion not logic
