Interesting game to watch, Comben could have kicked a bag if he kicked straight. In saying that, it fits what we do in the AFL also.

Powell of this year looks more tentative than Powell of last year, actually there's plenty of players that look like this at the moment.

Lazzaro is a trier, so was Mountford some time back and he got delisted. Pat Walker and McGuinness, I don't know, I can't see them making it.

Too cold and wet to get on the push bike to Arden street, so settled for the stream. My thoughts for what they're worth

  • best players for North in a beaten team were Marty Hore and Dom Tyson, so that puts some perspective on the search for quick answers to the woes at AFL level
  • best of the AFL list was definitely Comben - marked strongly throughout, kicked a boomer from outside 50 in the second quarter, but twice missed gettable shots in the last that might have ignited a comeback. Having got through the game (I assume), he should come in
  • agree with The Anvil that Powell was serviceable, but only that. Played centre square, which will please everyone, but 20 odd touches is hardly racking it up. Won a ferocious contested ball in the second qtr, which was great to see, but needs to see more of it
  • Lazzarro was busy all day, but no great impact; will need to work super hard to get another look in the ones
  • McGuinness worked his way into it, but made some howlers, including an uncontested dropped mark in the 1st which led to Geelong's first goal and halted North's momentum which was all one way to that point. There is no miracle KPD waiting in the wings
  • Pat Walker had 6 odd touches, which for a player in the system for a few years just isn't enough. Innocuous
  • Jackson Archer is a hard at it in the contest, but that is currently the extent of his game. Little creativity or precision with his disposal, and that part of his game will need to improve exponentially to get past the standard 2 year contract for draftees

Didn't see any of it. Was Monkhorst rucking?

yes he was, and has a dip, but out-pointed, I think by a boy on debut from the Geelong local leagues
Makes it hard for young Tommy to snag the pill in the guts is where I'm heading to. Ah well, no doubt he'll get another crack at it next week :-(

Sure, I think it's a true-ism that good young players look better playing in good sides. No surprise Powell was at his best last year playing alongside Cunnington

Watched it all

Powell isn't banging the door down

Comben is an easy in whenever he's ready. Launches himself at everything

Lazzaro has gone backwards

PWalker hasn't gotten out of first gear since he stepped off the plane from Tassie

McGuinness is just so very meh

Archer won't make it

Give me 15-20 Tom Powell possessions in the seniors over whatever it was that Jed ANderson and Hugh Greenwood did last night

Powell has banged the door down - he doesn't like what he sees inside - he won't be banging it down anymore.
