Not a BigFooty related question/criticism Lore.

Just a footy club issue that annoys me.

Not sure why sports club need so many fancy titles when "such and such" coach would suffice.

It’s a work place thing in general, increasingly obscure and nondescript job titles so people can have a promotion or feel important whilst still fundamentally doing the same role

Also a symptom of a growing football department that can't expect one person to handle all of the day to day needs of four different teams in four different leagues. It makes sense that they'd create verticals within the department and add middle-management or co-management roles – like McPherson and Ward jointly leading the footy department, but separately focusing on mens and womens football programs with their own teams of operations managers, budgeting, recruiting, development, medical services, coaches and players.

I'm just grateful they don't all have titles as the "vice president of .. " as if each director has their own little fiefdom.

He must have a pretty good contract with us… only reason you generally demote rather than fire.
If he does well as VFL coach wouldn't that put him one step closer to getting a senior coaching role?

Luke Ball once had the role : people, performance and development manager for the VFL. Apparently it was his job to arrange meetings.

Also, isn’t the VP thing an Americanism?

Presumably arranging meetings among other things, but idk why an aligned VFL team would need such a position. I get the impression that most of the VFL and VFLW staff are part-timers, or split their time across multiple programs.

Absolutely there is title inflation and a lot of sanitising of titles as well so "Human Resources" is now "People and Culture" as if a performance review is supposed to be for the employees' benefit 😝

But in this case I'm not sure what the issue is exactly. What else are they supposed to call it if they're talking about all the backstage staff?

Also, isn’t the VP thing an Americanism?
Probably 🤷‍♀️

As long as he does not do a Adrian Hickmott and ask the players to put their hand up if they thought they could not win at 3/4 time when they where down by 80 points and had only kicked 2 goals for the day so far.

Would put him in a good spot to get some sort of more senior role be it Senior Coach or GM of football type role.

"Blake and Matt (Rosa; Essendon's recently appointed AFL Talent & Operations Manager) will work closely with our Head of Development Cam Roberts, to build a program that not only accelerates the development of our AFL-listed players but also attracts strong talent who have the drive to become the best players they can."

Another great vfl signing. Will dominate vfl and get 30 touches every week. That’s what we’ve been lacking the vfl for so long and they’ve identified it, good midfields who will play in the side week in week out.

Means all those young talls will have the opportunity to learn some kind of structure other than 'chaos'.

Yep we will actually get some good looks for the forwards and be able to play a forward half game, instead of losing it out of the middle every week. Also means a guy like tsatas can ply his trade and learn without getting all the attention.

Sorry to intrude but wishing him all the best and if he gets to play as an inside mid for your VFL side, he will dominate. We never gave him that chance at AFL level and stuck him on a wing or a flank and he is neither. He never really got a proper chance in the main side. Who knows, if he plays well enough as that inside mid, he might be a good mid season pick up next year for you guys.

dont need to hear the no mids in VFL group now

let it go GIF

Apolgies, did not realise this was everything VFL,

Emerson Jeka (former Hawks KPF) joins O'Neil and Hately as ex AFL players to join the VFL program. Decent enough get, probably just one season and a (semi) promise to draft him if he has a good year.

Still, with Billy Cottee going to SANFL and Fitzgerald moving clubs, we needed more top VFL quality talent.

Would like a running defender, even if it is a VFL lister and keep the core we had last year. Some of the kids were good.
