One additional proviso is that you must have played at least 1 AFL/VFL game.
So for those believers in the McIntosh Miracle, he would have to play this week.

Reckon he will, even if he spends it propped up against a goalpost!

I forgot to mention, that was my first venture to Port for a match and it was one of the most feral crowds I've witnessed in 25+ years of watching footy. Completely clueless when it came to the rules and abusive to players and umpires alike. I actually feared for the safety of the umpires at one point.

Apparently so did the cops who had to escort them off the ground...
Bitter ferals....
Go Bankers

Phil Cleary might have his supporters but basically he was never good enough to play VFL and spent his life playing in the old VFA. The VFA was always the place where up and coming kids got a start (Terry Bright), or the graveyard of ex VFL players still trying to make a living. It had players who never quite made it and it also had another type of player. Phil Cleary was one of them. A hack who resorted to playing dirty to get a kick. I witnessed from 20 metres away him eye gouge John Scarlett at West Oval one Sunday back in the mid 70's and never had respect for the man again. I think he got a couple of weeks for it too. John Scarlett had a couple of weeks off with a torn retina. What sort of animal does that. He has lived his life championing the cause of battered women and acts like he is their champion. Until the ABC get rid of him, they will never get any respect from the footballing public. Too biased and too much dislike for teams like the cats to ever be respected as a commentator.

Sure you have the right guy. Price got into Scarlett's eye.

Phil Cleary like the rest of us who played vfa hang on to sides like port as not many vfa teams left
Like normal people who like to watch the footy dont want to hear him bang on about it every time he opens hes mouth.Oh this side has this many AFL listed players big whoop there not all AFL guns alot are kids in development stages.Port have a good team with mature bodys and can play there brand of footy while VFL team team trys to play like the AFL side.Sorry to quote you and my rant have a nice day.

I really like Phil Cleary as a person and generally like him on the VFL coverage but today was the first time I clearly saw what others have often referred to regarding his anti-Geelong stance. You could hear him barracking for the 'Borough' in most of his comments, relating the Port supporters comments, etc. The thing that got me is that he'd often use the disclaimer "Geelong are a very good side," as if that had him covered but not once did he extrapolate on why or talk up an individual player. Those comments and observations were reserved solely for Port players. Disappointing for me because, as I say, I generally like the guy.

The most I ever heard in the way of admiration from him was the last time we played Port. Beat them up with pretty much a VFL listed side. No AFL listed players or very few.

I think he see it as supporting the underdog. Port are standalone , and do it hard , we are the rich club with all the advantages. In this I can see his point. Its not quite as simple as that. Plenty of times in the past we have list AFL players that we just starting out , thin..under developed etc , getting man handled by men.

Without AFL teams , it would devolve to a 3rd tier comp . Perhaps some extra mone should be pushed their way not sure. It will only become more to his dislike next year with Footscray coming in.

Although disappointed by a number of GFC players yesterday - I did like the look of GHS and Cowan. They could be real players for us next season.

Also good to see West and JHunt are ready to step up if needed in the finals series on yesterday's performances.

I cracked up when early in the game he said some of the Port supporters said Chapman shouldn't be allowed to play in the VFL.
WTF planet are these idiots from ?

What made that all the more sweeter was Chappy was the one who popped up and kicked the sealer. :D

What did you think about Howe? Very hard to judge in a VFL game like that but has more promise than Banjanin. Height , I want to know his height? Had spring and was a reasonable skill set. As good a Rookie chance as any Ive seen us play.
I must admit, while not really being a regular VFL watcher by any stretch, that the times I've seen Banjanin play I've always thought he was alright.

As for Howe, for a first hit out he probably garnered a few new fans. I thought he was solid enough without being a real standout.

One thing is certain though, there clearly are plenty of handy footballers plying their trade in and around the Geelong area as the VFL side always seems to throw up a few pretty likely types year in-year out.

Daz,the cops do that every week at every ground in the VFL
damn uneducated expats living overseas should know better...;)

Go Catters

Was watching the game before, and noticed Gary Ayres in his quarter time address said something along the lines of "Did you see what Josh Hunt just did?"

Anyone know what he was referring to?

i didnt notice anything, but it was a bizarre address, he said "Did you see what Josh Hunt just did?" about 5 times with this crazed deranged look. it was more like pantomime.

Was like the commentators crapping on about how our team had 670 or so games of AFL experience. I'd say about 550 of those were played by Chapman, Josh Hunt and Troy Selwood.

I like him to. I actually understand where he's coming from. He's a proud VFA man and the competition is a bit of a dogs breakfast with reserves teams, alighned teams, and stand alone teams. There are only 3 stand alone teams left that are at a fair bit of a disadvantage. So I can see why he unashamedly barracks for them.

Me too. I don't like commentators barracking against Geelong, but I can see Cleary's point of view. The AFL are turning the VFL into AFL reserves, making the standalone teams unable to compete and effectively dancing on the VFA's grave. The VFA was a long standing, good standard league that wasn't too far behind the VFL at times. It would be good to keep the stand alone teams viable and competitive. Perhaps there needs to be some rules or financial distribution to help them get the best unlisted talents. It would be good in a way for the AFL listed players too, since they will develop against the best outside talents.
