Hey man, I love them all. Chill out.
You could have just said something along the lines of - I don't know why Guthrie is better, he just is.
Consistent with most of the rubbish on here.

Hey man, I love them all. Chill out.
Patrick, having watched the last 2 games of the VFl Hunt is a rock and doing nothing wrong.
But you're arguing against a guy that is doing zip wrong at AFL level in a position that isn't washy.
Ie. He isn't part time midfield.
The kid is going to play 200 games, and I reckon he has B&F winner written all over him.
So defend Hunt all you like, but please tone it down on Guthrie, you are going to end up looking like a fool.

I've said it before, I dont think Guthrie is taking Hunts spot.
And I want Rivers AND Hunt in the team come finals.
We can't fit them all.
It's a match committee decision per opponent.
Take a chill pill and enjoy the ride.
I agree actually. Rivers over Hunt presents a very tall back 6. We've never really had issues covering opposition talls with Taylor, Lonergan and Mackie. This has always been a big contributor to us having the best of Hawthorn.
We have struggled with the smaller forwards though, as well as opposition midfielders floating forward. Adding Rivers to me doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Hunt is very quick in a straight line, therefore quick to spoil. The other taller guys aren't.
I think there's a name missing from that group in all those wins over Hawthorn.
Of course.. Not to disrespect the legend but we're dealing in the here and now.

Better decision making, more accurate disposal (not longer, more accurate), is faster, and very importantly he can play two positions - either a small defender who can (and did) keep Stephen Milne goalless, and midfield tagger who is getting better in that role all the time. And he's 11 years younger.
To reiterate, it's not a straight swap, but there are my reasons why I'd prefer Guthrie.

Understand the arguments for Hunt. How does a kid with the potential to play 200 games and potential B&F winner help us in 2 games time? Explain.
You've missed the point. I agree he's done nothing wrong, did Hunt though? No. It's not about that, it's taking the best players into finals that matters. I've said it before, I have no bias towards players, I want flag number 4. I think Hunt gives us a better chance, in Rivers' or Guthrie's place.
By the way, I'm just so, so concerned about you calling me foolish. Just so you know.
Understand the arguments for Hunt.
He has been very good and is a potential weapon for us. However at this stage, I think Guthrie deserves his place over him on account of being a little tighter defensively.
Rivers is the interesting one and I'm torn on whether it suits us to have another smaller defender in Hunt or a med/tall like Riv. I think the coaches are leaning towards the latter on basis it provides us more flexibility to rotate Mackie and Taylor.
As I said though, I'm not sure of this just yet and would still like to see Hunt appear again.

I think as far as the MC the argument is over.
Rivers and Guthrie in and JHunt out.
Now against tall forward lines we are fine. The concern is when we play small forward lines with quicker players.
If THunt or maybe even Varcoe was in form we could use them down back but neither can be used in that role right now.
We can push Mackie to a wing but who goes back that has some leg speed and run ? Those days are gone for Corey and Kelly. Bartel is a good extra backman but not as straight backman and has no pace.
Not sure what we do if we have some side in the finals realise our tall backline is excellent against tall forward lines and so go small on us.
Anyone got any ideas ?
Tippett, Jesse White and the resting ruck would make 3 talls. All depends if that's how they pick them or not though I guess.Regarding the Swans however is Riv the one tall too many? Tippet is covered but whom else plays tall forward for them. Goodes is out, Reid is out. LRT is out. Could be too tall and Josh may be the better option this week....
Happy to be educated on Swans tall forwards....
Go Catters

Feeling sorry for Smedts because according to the ABC last week he is not eligible to play in VFL finals
