National AFL shows spend more time on Vic teams, as Vic teams make up 55% of the competition whilst WA teams are 10%...yet WA fans think they deserve equal coverage.

Wowsers the lot of em.
The point being made is that the WA clubs make up about 10% of the competition and get 0.001% coverage on the 'national' AFL shows. No one expects equal coverage, we'd be happy with SOME coverage. I'm sure the other non-Victorian teams have similar issues.

What is this new conversation 'we don't get enough coverage'?

Being a Perth resident there's plenty of coverage of all things wa footy.

The beef seems to be 'we don't get enough coverage in vic', well the last time I looked wc and freo and basically ALL non vic clubs do get coverage on all the following vic platforms

-sen vic (like whole segments in some shows where they cross to Tim Gossage or Brad Hardie or whoever for the local run down)
-the fox footy shows
-fta media

Ok they don't get the same coverage >in vic< like vic clubs do, oh the humanity!!! someone please kill me this is a fate worse than death.

I will not apologize for this sarcasm, this is a ridiculous whinge.

To add, here in wa the footy coverage is saturated with all things freo and wc, as it should be. Sure, there is some coverage of vic clubs but only if there's an element of 'wa' about it, like a wa player for a vic club or vice versa. Meh I would and should expect that - nothing wrong with it.

But this complaint about the vic media not covering non vic clubs >in vic< is just toy throwing.

The reason there's no saturation on non vic clubs in vic is coz the vic viewers want content on their clubs. Surprise surprise.

But yeah some sort of non vic conspiracy right? Goyder from wa is to blame coz he's vic biased.

Gather round to include 2 games in country SA.

Reads further and yep, 4 non vic teams to do the extra travelling (including the team that with Freo does by far the most every year).

How long do you reckon that putrid, corrupt organisation took to decide no Melbourne team should be inconvenienced?

Extra travelling? Its like 30 mins out of the CBD......26 minutes further from the Airport than Adelaide Oval is. Would you prefer to play Port or Crows at Adelaide Oval like the Bombers and Dees are? 🤔

Geez some people will sook about anything.

Dogs and Carlton played the gather round v the adelaide teams last year. Now it's Bombers and Dees. So 4 out of 4 for Vic teams. And yet he still manages to find a #VICBIAS complaint about it.

Gather Round - some strange concept where the two Adelaide teams are given an extra home game against two Victorian teams and all other 14 teams play at a neutral venue in SA is somehow being viewed as Vicbias. Just shows how nonsensical much of the Vicbias stuff is.

P.S. Mt Barker ain't exactly country.

Gather round is basically the gathering of the drunks. lol

Father son. No.
This was really only a fair whinge when the WA & SA clubs had only been in the league for a short time & the qualification rules for SANFL & WAFL past players was ridiculous. The WA & SA clubs have all been in the AFL so long now 99% of Father/Sons will come from the AFL era with the same qualification as everyone else.

Absolutely it is, but not at the expense of 4 Vic clubs

I agree.... A lot of Anti North posting is on here wanting them to fold or relocate or merge. theres also a thread of posters sinking the boots on North for getting a prority pick or 2.

I dont want North to merge or relocate or fold.

Agree, It is getting close to even. Peter Daicos would not have played for Port or Freo. He would have played one season for the crows.

It still has a big impact, and it will take another 10 years before it is even.

I dunno we've already had a number starting with Brett Ebert and have Jase Burgoyne currently on the list with umpteen more Burgoynes in the pipeline (of course Shaun's lot can choose Hawthorn as well). tbh I'm not sure Trent Burgoyne or Taj Schofield would've been tried at all if it wasn't for the last name, for every star F/S around the league there's umpteen duds.

Agree you are starting to get some, but not equal to the vic teams.

We probably have 80-90% of the potential father sons now.

Complaint about no Vic team having to travel from Adelaide during Gather Round on VIBias thread.

Who would have thought?

"Travel".

The Eagles and Freo players (and majority of players in the AFL for that matter) probably travel further just to get from their homes to the local airport than they do once they arrive in Adelaide. Suck it up princess.

So today according to a coach of the Western Bulldogs, WC, Collingwood and Carlton, the AFL is still Vic centric and has a long way to go.

Seems to be a reasonable view coming from someone who should know.

Does the W.A Media cover vic teams in the news and updates as much as west coast and freo ?
I mean this. Victoria has by far the most balanced coverage, SA and WA media pretend only two teams exist and NSW and QLD pretend the game doesn't exist . The Vic media will cover every team maybe not to the same extent but it's there

What happens on Vic radio, nightly news or local toilet papers is irrelevant, it's not about local media.
The issue around equal broadcast is on TV shows that are broadcast nationally. The same host in Vic do a lot of both and they don't really put much effort in when it comes to teams outiside the 3000 postcode.

But there is no 'national' broadcasting except for games.

All other shows and radio programs are all state based, including those in wa and sa. Everywhere else they don't exist.

I don't get it. Are you expecting the AFL to take over the TV networks to ensure equal coverage?
