what about gather round in Victoria?
Just keep the last weekend in September as the Victorian gather round.

a couple of games at Victoria Park?
Agree, if we end up having to play a game at Cat Park, we should get a home game at Pie Park too.

Equality and all that.

Will the Tasmania team be a victim of the same levels of #VICBIAS that the NSW, QLD, SA and WA teams are subject to?
Yes, the role of a Tasmanian team is to increase the broadcast rights of the AFL by having more games and to increase media interest.

Their playing role will be to be semi-competitive and to disappear after Round 23.

I don't get the point of a gather round - unless it was in regional or places that barely see AFL - like NT. It's a silly gimmick.
Here's the reasons why it works.

1. SA is a traditional football state who has only one AFL game per week and in general a fan will see one game per fortnight max. Locals go to see some of the neutral games. Will Victorians go and watch GWS v Gold Coast at Ballarat when you get neutral games in Melbourne every weekend.
2. Being a traditional football state there are multiple options for venues the same as Melbourne who could use Princes Park and others as venues that could hold a small crowd.
3."Country Games" in Adelaide 30 minute drive from the centre of the city with public transport options
4. It is a festival you can tell there are extra people in the city. Melbourne it would be business as normal.
5. Attendance fees are down making it affordable to see multiple games.
6. The atmosphere is good with fans of all teams in one place like real football not like the Hindenburg Rallies where all supporters are from one team.

I can see why it's good for Adelaide, but I don't see why it's good for the AFL. Sure the government pays them, but how much of that is lost due to the smaller gate takings and extra costs associated with 16 teams being away. There aren't country games - they're all in Adelaide. A bit of a gimmick for a couple of years, but don't see why it's there.

I'm talking about Mount Barker - Adelaide Hills and next year in the Barossa Valley. Plus there is no loss of gate takings because its an extra round. The AFL took away a practice game and added the Gather Round to the season.

It's a whole extra game, so gate takings are all extra.

Barossa will be a good addition. It's now a 23 game season - the alternative to a gather round is an additional H & A - don't be surprised if that's what happens when Tassie join - otherwise it will be everyone gathering - except one team or a pretend gather game before the others have gathered.

... Hindenburg Rallies ...
Good post, but a great typo.

Der Fuhrer was explosive and his 2IC was a blimp, but those rallies were at Nuremberg.

I agree if the GF is pinned in Melbourne then other states should get special rounds like this.

Just to draw this response from you I would say.
