Vickery is a star!

Some dukish behaviour is coming very common in the TV game. I love it, most of the time I am yelling VICK as the ball is kicked into our forward line now.

On the Biggie situation, he will allow TV to play a little more ruck but also he can push up the wings due to his athleticism and similarly we know JR can move up the ground.

Vickery, Riewoldt and Griffiths can easily fit in the same team.

Aside from the fact we are playing 3 talls at the moment and it seems to be working well, both Vickery and Riewoldt play like mid sized forwards, such is there ability when the ball hits the ground. Griff is very much a forward along the same lines. Great "standard" attributes - marking, kicking etc...but quick and with unique agility and ability below the knees.

I said in Griff's thread on the tiger sanctuary that Vickery needed to improve if he was going to survive as a forward once griff was ready (2012 onwards). I still thought Vickery would hold down a spot, albeit as #1 ruck/resting forward. He is starting to show, however, that he has the potential to be a superb key forward, and that perhaps he would be wasted as a #1 ruck.

The best thing about the three guys we have is that none are liabilities, unlike our last few key forwards.

With Richo, for all of his greatness you knew he would spray a few and that he would rarely tackle.

With Stafford, you knew that he could take a mark and be a physical presence, but he was very slow by the time he came to us and had virtually no leap on him.

With Patto, he had heart but nothing else going for him. With Hughes, he had all the tools but just couldn't get involved in games. With Schulz, he couldn't string together consistent games, and he lacked the nouse to get out of richos way....I mean I could go on forever but the 3 key forwards we have right now seem to be a different breed.

Well i suppose its time for me to gloat then !!

said it since day dot,T.Vickery is a foward and a very good foward that can have a run in the ruck (our leigh brown but better)

Riewoldt,Vickery & Griffiths all playing foward with T.V relieving the ruckman is our best shot and hopefully we can get a mitch clarke,J,Trengrove in the off season to enhance our ruck KPP versatility.

I would Love to get another mobile big ruckman like either Jordan Roughead,Vardy,Clarke to compliment our ruck stocks

Graham is not what we need

People, I am loving...LOVING the thought of this: Riewoldt, Griffiths, Vickery.

As soon as Benny is fit and raring to go, out comes Miller. Griffo to play true CHF, learn his role and become a target. Vickery to play relieving ruck more than now, and find more of the ball outside the arc than the other two.

Could be a seriously awesome one-two-three punch in the years to come, the stuff of legend. Jack may well end up being that '3rd tall' people had him pegged as

Excited as f*ck.

I said before the game that Brissy didn't have a defense mismatch and that Ty was going to have a field day. He had a bit of the yips last night, which is so unlike him. But for a 200cm guy, he has very good acceleration and very good lateral movement. He will eventually make for a fantastic ruck (in about 5 years)
One of the media guys said a week or so back, that rucks that come from forward backgrounds are far more dangerous than players with pure ruck backgrounds, when resting forward. Pretty obvious statement. But you would hope that the pure Ruck would be a better ruck. But would you be prepared to take another tall forward, with the idea of making them a ruck? With the development of the game, a mobile ruck is very important, and if you have 2 players who are rotating 50% each between ruck and forward, then they should be able to run harder when rucking.

Been my favourite player this year since he kicked five in pre-season, absolutely loving watching his progress :D

Playing his role in the side very nicely and will kick 35+ this year if he keeps up his form. It's great that we have another tall forward chipping in with their 2-3 goals a game to help Jack out.

It is also worth noting that Tyrone's performances have risen ever since we have had Miller in the side! While Miller isn't great by any means he does get TV and JR some freedom with oppositions backman.

He was a ruck/forward just as he is now
Probably more ruck, but I'm sure that is more to do with his build compared to senior AFL players than anything to do with his future permanent role

Tyrone Vickery will probably kick between 40-45 goals this year playing as our 2nd KPF.

For a 21 yo KPP that is fantasic & to think that he is also actually a developing ruck makes it even better.

CHF: TAYLOR GRIFFITHS MORTON

FF: VICKERY RIEWOLDT KING

With the rotations of the short people when vickery is rucking and/or Morton is going through the midfield you could add in Nason/Nahas/White

Troy Taylor will be such an X factor type in that foward line being 192 cm but can play like a small.

There is not a backline in the afl that could match these boys for height strenght and speed.

Spot on! Riewoldt also scored fairly poorly in the agility + fitness tests in comparison to many..am I right?
Dunno about Jack but TV excelled.

Spud, delist.
Absolute shocker of a player.
My god he was collossal tonight. Freaked me out how good he was.
Eat some worms.

Someone joked in another thread that Miller's greatest ability is not kicking, marking or handballing but structuring. Some truth in jest.

He is a gun isn't he? Some of us saw it early, but we're glad the rest of you have caught up. ;)

It's a good problem to have. Vickery will be a gun ruckman who goes forward and troubles teams, good for 30-40 goals a year. Griff will be CHF, Jack doing what he does now. We just need another tall who can play ruck, because Jack and Griff cannot. Maybe Posty can do that? Backup ruck/3rd tall swingman, Leigh Brown role. Post needs to improve.

This makes the most sense to me - if Griffiths is up to it.

I have to confess I was wrong - I thought he would start producing what he is now in 1-2 years. He always looked like a footballer trapped in a tall, skinny kid's body. Now he has some muscle and experience we are seeing what he can do. The thing I love about him and JR is that both are very comfortable on the ground and so make a tall structure also mobile. The other thing I love is that they both tackle and provide defensive pressure. Unlike some others i reckon we should go as hard as possible with Gus, Browne, and Diericx (?). If we have a decent B grade AFL ruck and Ty we can match any ruck combo over the game, and it makes it very difficult for the opposition. Ty plays forward and it's dangerous, and he can play ruck as needed. So put the development into our rucks and get TV to be as good a forward/ruck as possible and we have a winner.
I love the way he looks like a good mid in open play, that is so rare for a 200 cm player. I suspect he will end up a long way ahead of Nic Nat because he is footballer first and an atheletic, fast 200 cm guy as well.

oooooh yeeaaaah boooyzzz!:d

Bulking him up to be more effective in the ruck will be dangerous as it could jeopardise his acceleration.

Lets keep him slimmer, more agile and a threat down forward. He could be our Kurt Tippett.

Where the hell is Wally?
Truetiger said Vickery is a dud a month ago and said the club should get rid of him. Great work :thumbsu:

I'm here.... l'm taking the credit for his new found ability. Seems l stung him into action.

Serious. Should be placed on payroll as a motivator to ensure footballers understnad their given talents.

;)

Can you make a few threads about our other players struggling to make the 22 as well?

2012 premiers here we come. :p
