I don't want to be reminded!Jack Billings' last qtr reminded me a little of Darren Jarman in the 1997 GF
Who cares whether there are many other examples of anyone else who has done it? The role suits Nick down to the ground because he has a tank that very few if any have had before him and not only that, he has a past history of having played the role successfully.
I've been calling for him to play this role more for years (including in the 2010 GF replay, when it was clear that Collingwood knew how to keep him quiet by putting Maxwell in front of him) and one of the reasons why is that he could probably kick just about as many goals from the wing pushing forward as he will if he's playing permanently forward, yet him being out of the forward line leaves more chances for the likes of Bruce/Hickey/Membrey to kick goals and Nick would of course be kicking many more goals from a wing than whoever else we'd have playing wing if it wasn't him. So overall, I just see us being able to kick more goals with him playing wing and I also see us having a much better target when kicking out of the back 50 and of course he'd also be able to push deep into defence to help out back there when needed. I just see so many positives with him playing that role and of course it also lets the likes of Membrey get more senior AFL experience, rather than spending more time in the VFL.
He was having little to no influence forward yesterday either though, so it's not like he suddenly became less influential once he was moved to the wing in the 2nd half. He was moved to the wing because he wasn't having much influence forward and because the forward line was less effective overall with him there, as crazy as that may sound.
As I said prior to the game I think we should have just stuck with what had worked so well for us the week before and left Bruce, Hickey and Membrey forward and played Roo on the wing from the start. Was better late than never though to make the move and kudos to Richo for doing it when he did.
Just watched the replay. This game had a bit of "rumble in the jungle" about it. The fave threw everything at us and we absorbed the punishment... and when they tired, we came out and knocked them out.
Great to see we have some kids who can kck. Billings on the arc of 1 step... BANG!
It is indeed and if he's out of the forward 50 it will mean the likes of Bruce will take more in there and I think it's a pretty safe bet that Nick would still take plenty of marks inside 50 if he was playing on the wing. Most of them in 1-on-1 contests, against someone shorter than him, rather than being double or triple teamed. One mark inside 50 is worth two between the arcs...
No shit Sherlock, but Richo was incredible that season and I still remember the roar of the crowd every time he went for a mark. He was just dominating games of footy and if he'd played that role and that well his whole career then he'd have had a much better career than he ended up having mostly up forward, IMO.Matthew Richardson is not great because he played on the wing... For one season
He was great because he kicked 800 plus goals
What does a great team have to do with us? Last time I checked we're a rebuilding team and as such it's more about the future and in this instance it would be largely about letting the likes of Bruce, Hickey and Membrey/McCartin develop in that role that Roo would otherwise be keeping one of them out of.Midfielders are a dime a dozen .... There are over 30 gun mids in the AFL less than 10 gun KFs.
In a great team, he wouldn't have had to go through the middle and find the ball
Confirmed: David Armitage GOATI did it.. Wanted to compare Armos start to the year with Gary Ablett from 2013 and 2014.

Only got 5 Jacks ......Well played to the saints for their awesome comeback yesterday. All day Armitage was to good for us and Billings last qtr was something special (bit like the bont last year v Dees). Then there were the other 6 jack's who were to quick for us in the last 20mims.
Obviously your team will take a lot of belief from the last two weeks. Good luck for the rest of the season.
Only got 5 Jacks ......
.... but it must have seemed like there were 7.
Great stuff. There IS NO BIT THAT IS NOT GOOD! I watched it again today and the beauty of the firstchalf is hearing the commentators fall over themselves to praise (correctly) the dogs when you know full well what is about to unfold!Anyway, great days for all us Sainters, and I'm going to watch the good bits again later!

if it aint broke dont fix it.Someone needs to quietly get in Lonie's ear about over-playing for a free, because once he starts he won't be able to stop.
This.
Absorbed.
Then went pow.
I would prefer not to absorb in future. 55 points down is never a place you want to be ever!
I see the reference though
