Tom North in his 3rd year at Fremantle and still no opportunity to play 1's .Surely after year 2 he should have been released to play else where in the AFL.

He probably wanted a go under another coach, and the new coach probably wanted him to stay so he could make a call on him. I’m just guessing though.

He's had a few injuries along the way, which has hampered his progress. Perhaps they have a vision for his development or maybe didn't have a clear enough picture to be categorical in ending his time at Freo at the end of last year. Given he's not played a game I don't think the outcome of his axing at Freo would be to "released to play else where in the AFL". More likely released to play in the WAFL or VFL. For Tom's sake, it's not a decision you'd want to make lightly, even with the mature age avenues that have opened up of late.

He was delisted and rookied. If anyone else was interested in him they could have picked him up.

I just re-watched the highlights from the weekend's game, and both Taberner and Lobb made Barrass look like a training dummy in marking contests. Mark my words, as soon as our midfield has greater experience, and can consistently be relied upon to win the greater share of clearances, we'll flog those turkeys!!
This will be even more exasperated at the opposite end of the field with Kennedy's absence, as footsteps will be manned by our marque key position defender, and Oscar Allen will have no choice but to be manned by our second most competent defender. Good times!

Hmm. You're being mightily selective in your comments too. I 100% agree the board were derelict to sack Lyon without a replacement that was demonstrably better than him lined up. That's what happens when the commercial equivalents to low rent meter maids like Alcock and Murphy are put in charge of your club - you get decisions based on image not substance.
But Lyon was done. He was becoming more and more hysterical in his defence of himself. He was micromanaging everything and achieving less and less because of it.

I think your second point contradicts your first. If we accept Lyon was done then the board did the right thing removing him regardless of an available replacement. Coaches with proven records better than his are few and far between and they're extremely difficult to poach from their clubs. Should the board have held on to Lyon ad infinitum until another once in a generation poaching opportunity arose?

I was a massive Lyon fan for the vast majority of his reign but there's no doubt in my mind the club had gone stale under him by the end. The gameplan was stale and the effort of the players had gone stale. There was still the occasional good win but when things got hard the white flag was rolled out too easily too often. The club had lost its spirit.

Watching our players lowering their eyes and hitting leading teammates on the chest so regularly under JLo just confirms to me that they made the right choice. I can't tell you how frustrated I became by the end that such a basic and fundamental aspect of footy seemed so absent from our team under Lyon.

Not really
Rosich and the board mismanaged the coach, and the opportunity of making the most of his many skills was lost. He's still an incredible football brain, but they didn't challenge him to be better, bring in the experienced assistant/s he desperately needed around him. They stuffed up. In the end they panicked and got rid of him because they couldn't manage him and harness his talent.

23 goals.

Dragging the club's reputation through the sewer with a sexual harassment case.

Both were sackable offences in their own right.

The mis-management by the Board was that they were way too patient with an under-performing and unethical senior manager.

The second half we played in the derby was little more than a training drill for the egos. Yes we have injuries, yes we have have a new coach but that was diabolical football.

Any side can have an off half of football but that was disheartening.

We need to show more than that against Geelong to convince me the glass is half full because it seems to have a hole in it that drains away progress quicker than its added.

That's fair enough. The Geelong game is a big one to see if the second half was a bit of a one off or if it's a new pattern emerging. We wouldn't want too many halves like that again this season.

I can't accept the Tucker bashing without any context. He attended 6 centre bounces, and I didn't see him lining up from the wing much. That means he was predominantly forward flank.

In his first game for the year in the position (he's usually a starting mid) he equalled or exceeded the output of Schultz and Banfield, who have played the role for several games. Schultz had 0% DE and 1 tackle...

The only reason I can think of that he wasn't played through the middle against the Eagles is because of a niggle or load management. He carried a lot of load in the midfield during the hub.

Mods can we ban "Numero Uno' from these pages please. That user simply wants to create arguments and be disrespectful.

Where was the original photo of him gesturing to Kennedy seen?
