On a side note Jacko Nelson has played as an inside mid for the past month or so and has been super impressive, posiitons his body well enough that he can come out the front of stoppages and uses the ball well around the ground.

Has he looked more at ease playing there compared to down back? With Cole coming on i think Nelson in the guts is the way to go as long as he looks like he is capable and not like when we tried College and Tunners in there.

Colledge and Tunbridge were forwards that was the problem. Nelson has played midfield before so should be a natural

I think we are missing a fit Scott Selwood , read or heard he is back in full training and that is good news !!!
But at his best he can be that contested midfielder , his disposal let him down but the foot injury wouldn't have helped at all in that area !!

Dont shoot me just that real contested player that could have been handy if he was fit unlike the past 2-3 seasons .

Yes, what we're missing is another mediocre mid who can't kick, our recruiting department should get right on that.

Missing both TBH. A fit scooter would be handy. He isn't and also isn't on the list, so it is kind of a moot point.
Come on, we're not missing either of them, they're both average. What we're missing is some real top-line talent in our midfield to match the top-line talent we have in our key position players.

There are plenty of opportunities available in the league team. There is a desperate need for -
  • a half forward flanker with pace, aggression, able to read the ball off marking contests and kick straight;
  • forward pocket .... as above
  • midfielders as above but also with the ability to win a contested ball
Now is the time for any of these young guys to buckle down and show some sustained football ability and leadership in the reserves and take advantage of these opportunities. If they cannot see this then we have drafted the wrong players. Players like Lamb, Partington (has SANFL league experience), McInnes, Allen, Nelson (might be harsh on him) and Karpany should be busting their guts to break into this side week in week out. (There's not much use talking about Jetta, Colledge, Giles, Lucas et al as they are, basically, cooked).
Not one of our second string players, with the exception of Barrass, has shown anything above average. One or two of them each week should be ripping games apart. Just watch when Sheed comes back from injury through East Perth ...... he has had a big taste of AFL and will be running himself ragged to get back in the A Team.

Agile smalls who like the contested ball, have speed, goal sense and damaging disposal. Flanker and pocket are near on the same position these days.

To the draft we go! WA has a bumper crop of smalls of all shapes and sizes this year, we've got no excuse.

The problem is we just don't have quality depth, in particular in the midfield.

Players below are either not afl quality or just not ready yet. Apart from jetts, barass, Ellis, nelson, cole and the injured sheed the depth drops off quickly and outside of sheed we have no genuine ready midfield depth pushing the guys in the 22. It's concerning how many list cloggers we have and geeze as bad as our midfield appears to be at times, a few injuries in there and we would be right back down the ladder.

Still wouldn't mind getting more midfield minutes into Duggan, Nelson, yeo etc and if that means dropping one of the under performing guys I'm OK with that. Something needs to change anyway.

Was looking through the list and the dead weight is real this year.

Cavka and Waterman are both unavailable on the list(s).
McGinnity is 27 years of age and still on our list after all these years! Can't play him because youth comes before this spud.
Colledge and Tunbridge aren't on the senior list but they wouldn't be useful even if they where.
Lucas might actually be retained for 2017 because our running depth is not very good.
Karpany has gone nowhere since his first year.
Giles is not young and there for security only.
Adamson and Brophy have shown some ability but in a weak side they've shown their immaturity and reliability as footballers.

Cole and Nelson are talented and show promise but they're in the same boat as Duggan they're not mature enough.

Partington, Mutimer and Snadden have shown some ability but look like development prospects.

Add into the fact Priddis is 31 and Butler is 30, the smalls depth looks worse after that fact.

Hutchings, Redden, Jetta are journeymen. Bennell is purely depth.

And yet according to some we shouldn't draft any midfielders this year

Lamb.

Barney44 Eastern Rangers FiveStrings what are your thoughst on Liam Ryan? Last two weeks showed us that we really need a small crumbing player with a bit of x factor. I see his form so far has been good but does he have the potential to replicate that at AFL level?

HB: Gorter Mackenzie Cole
C: Ellis Nelson Maginness
HF: Oakley-Nicholls Lamb Hille

Out: Mcinnes, Jetta, Giles, Barrass

Good to see Mutimer hold his spot, hopefully Karps does too.

Colledge and Partington may get a reprieve, no sign of Bennell though.

Be interested to hear how Tunbridge goes. Everyone poo-poo's the bloke but he could bring something different to the forward line if he found form and had an injury free run. Definitely a different build to our usual suspects playing the small/medium roles.
