Good news with Waite re-signing! Hey sorry to go off the topic here, but i wondering with Jamison FB & Henderson better in defence at CHB then up forward. Waite would play CHF with Kreuzer the Forward/Ruckman. My question is can Simon White play FF? I know he can definitly play both ends of the ground and is mobile enough to play forward. Will he in 2012? Would like to see Ratten give this a try.

Good to hear he has re-signed, but I don't think there was ever any doubt that he and the club would come to terms. Couldn't see him ever leaving the club.

I'm not a fan of the 3 year deal - I think a 2 year contract would have been far more appropriate under the circumstances. Nevertheless, Waitey is an integral part of the side and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in what will hopefully be a full, injury-free season. We need another 1 or 2 forwards that can contribute 20+ goals in a season on top of what we had this year, and Waite certainly is more than capable of that.

I think a 3 year contract is just fine. Waite bleeds blue, and so he deserves a little generosity. Having said that, you can be assured that Swann has put a few conditions on the 3rd year just in case.

I think Ratts is looking at playing Hampson at FF in 2012.

Blues' Waite in three-year deal
Waite, 28, has signed a three-year contract extension, ensuring he remains at the club at least until the end of 2014. It is understood the deal is worth about $1.3 million, with the key forward to receive his biggest slice in the final year.

Good move if Waite receives the biggest slice is his final year. Jarrad should become a veteran by then with half the contract not counted in the salary cap. Definitely his final contract that should see Jarrad out like Mooney and Harley who retired at 31/32.

General, that was exactly my first thought, but then I remembered reading this.

To save reading the whole thing, it sounds like AFL is changing the veteran's rule to instead exempt $100k from as many 10-year service players you have on your list.

I can't find confirmation of this rule anywhere, so have to trust the author.

I guess this is a more equitable system. Instead of using the veteran's list to manipulate large chunks of a superstar's backended salary, it is an incentive to keep multiple vets on your list.

Oh, back to the topic. YAY! SOV aka Tighty Waitey finally sorted out. Was never in doubt. He is of course a true blue, and I still get shivers when I think about him playing after his old man's passing. Now, may he be blessed with good luck on the body front and rule out the suspendable brain farts!

But don't curb the aggression too much - wouldn't be fair to have Robbo flying the flag on his own.
